I am wondering what is the most preferred! Ranked or Unranked Jams!

Lately have been trying to start my own Jams, but wondering what makes people want to participate. Of course the theme and maybe the nice looking trophy could be enticing. But would being ranked or unranked cause people to turn away? What are people most excited for?

Please vote if you prefer Ranked or Unranked Jams! Or that you could go for either.
Please comment
, if you like, and tell me why you'd enter a jam. Is it the theme? The trophy? And why do you prefer Ranked or Unranked Jams? What would you like to see in a jam?

Also, any idea how to properly rank things in a Jam you are hosting? I know it may depend on what it is about, but is there a basic set of rules? Other than to not be bias or be unfair.

For those who don't understand the difference
ranked are contests like you have one entry and you can get a place
unranked are events, where you post 5 submissions of any kind(depends on the host) and everyone gets treaten the same, you entered - you get prize

I generally will enter my content into a jam if I deem the theme to be somewhat to my liking (obviously), assuming it allows a fair amount of freedom, and/or if I like the trophy(s). If it does come down to the trophies in a ranked versus an unranked jam, I will most likely go for a ranked jam, as it offers more competition and a one-of-a-kind trophy if I get to the top 3. I hope that gives you some insight into what people like (possibly just my opinion although I'm sure at least one of the other 4.5 million+ users on the site agree).

The main advantage I see to ranked jams is that one [hopefully] gets some [reasonably objective] feedback on one's work. [The fact that I've not the skill level to have much chance of medaling removes taht as a consideration.]

WRT some of the other questions:

is a reply I wrote about a specific jam, but you may find the remarks there (and in other replys in the thread) provide at least some help
