Hey there. I haven't really seen one of these before, and I really like math. I find it fun to help others in this field. I think this would be a really fun idea. So, here's a scenario in which this thread would be useful.

You have some math homework.
You stumble across a problem that you find difficult.
Some assistance with that particular problem would be nice.
You post your problem below and I, or a fellow helpful person get cracking at it (showing the steps)!
You learn and breeze through the rest of your math homework.
Yay.

Basically you post a math problem and I, or others do our best to solve it and show you how. Please don't abuse it (such as posting your whole assignment), this is meant for learning, not copying answers.

Say you didn't have homework and just want to post a math problem for the heck of it. Why not? :P

I will attempt every problem posted that is Algebra 2, Geometry, Algebra 1, Math 7 and anything else below that. As for others, they could be more knowledgeable in this field.

Since the 9's go on FOREVER, there is no number small enough to be the difference between the two.

0.9999... = 1
Thus x = 0.9999...
10x = 9.9999...
10x - x = 9.9999... - 0.9999...
9x = 9
x = 1.

Actually the correct answer is 3.
The order of operations is the *correct* way to solve that problem.

If you are solving using the order of operations, then (2 + 2 ) /2 = 4

I don't see how the quantity of 2 + 2 is equal to 4...
And if you were solving using the order of operations which is the correct way to solve that problem you would divide 2 by 2 first then add 2, giving you 3.

1. you don't see how 2 + 2 = 4?

2. You only divide 2 by 2 first if it is written 2 + 2 / 2

1.Sorry, I meant I don't see how the quantity of 2 + 2 divided by 2 is equal to 4, which is what you said.

2. Yeah... the way I said it it was written 2 + 2/2 :P There was no "quantity" part.
just to clarify, the way you wrote it isn't the only way you could write 2 plus 2 divided by four. There could be parenthesis.
My post starts here, the stuff up there are quotes being weird
Erm, no.
If I would have said "The quantity of two plus two divided by four" it would have been 2. But I did not. If quantities are not specified in the problem, there are no parentheses.
