DPS wise, swords trump axes.

i voted tridents, especially enchanted with full impaling and channeling

Tridents. Thhey can be thrown or hit using hand. They can also float back to you after being thrown, they can struck lightning, and underestimate guardian power (Using Loyalty, Channeling, and Impaling enchantments).

Swords are the best weapon but I personally like axes, even if they do take longer to recharge for another hit.

swords and bows. the first weapons. the others are crap. axes maybe kinda good but of u add of the damage swords is always on top. crosbows and tridents are actual garbage in pvp

As much as I adore crossbows, Swords are still the best.

It's very situation based on which weapon is best, but in general, then I would say the sword as there aren't that many long range mobs in the game, and most of the time, when fighting blazes or skeletons, you can use your movements to avoid being hit :)

fact: axes do more damage than swords! Lets get it the most voted! (you can check if you dont believe me)(im counting diamond gear)

They do more damage than swords, true. Most people know that, but they also take much longer to recharge for another hit. It's a different playstyle. Before the Combat Update, where there was no recharge, axes did not have the damage boost they do today.

ok true, but its better for hunting down animals if you have many of them in a farm.

If you have lots in one space then no, the sword's sweeping edge attack is very useful there.

FACT: xbox 360 at one point had tridents, but not the new 1.9 combat mechnics, making it the best weapon by one damage
