Webster's defines a salad as "any of various cold dishes, such as small pieces of food (such as pasta, meat, fruit, or vegetables) usually mixed with a dressing (such as mayonnaise) or set in gelatin" or even "a usually incongruous mixture," which both apply to cookies. No, a cookie is not a perfect incongruous mixture, but it does usually have elements of an incongruous mixture, at least partially, since they can be separated. So a cookie could be a salad. Not a very good one, but sure, it could be.

Salads ALWAYS:
- Contain fruits and / or vegetables. Can be cut up but must be in seperate parts.
- Act as liquids. This means the different parts of the salad must obey gravity to take the shape of a container as liquids or semi-liquids do.
Cookies meet neither of these requirements.
