Was 1.7.10 the "Golden Age" of MC modding?

I find vanilla minecraft boring. Sorry, but it's true I do. So when I play MC it is almost always with a mod or two, even on a vanilla server I usually have optifine, or something. But I have found a great deal of mods that are from back in 1.7.10 that where never updated past that point. For whatever reason, many mods just dropped off the face of the planet wish the 1.8 and further updates.

What's your opinion on this? Was 1.7.10 the Golden Age of MC Modding, or not?

The reason why many authors never updated their mods to 1.8+ is that Minecraft changed a lot in the 1.8 update - at least from the code side. Many mechanics were removed, replaced, changed or added (like the .json system). Because of this many mods that did not have a large team or that were not really famous just were not really worth it to update to their authors. It is kind of possible we might see something like this again in some form because of the rewritten Forge for 1.13+ and/or the flattening.

1.7.10 was definitely the golden age, but I also agree that it's old and mod authors should always strive to keep their creations up to date. I'd honestly like to know why 1.7.10 was chosen to be the haven for mods, my guess would be that the 1.7 series of releases lasted a pretty long time and it was just easy to keep updating from one 1.7 release to another. 1.8 being a completely new ball game and most just chickened out at the challenge and stuck with the nice and familiar 1.7.10.. I applaud those who were able to stand up to the challenge and push past it though, unlessss that's not the case of why 1.7.10 is so popular.. Then I have no idea.
