Which is better, Java or Bedrock?videogame_asset
so I'm playing minecraft and I am now debating whether or not I should purchase java edition.
So besides the price and all that, which is better in your opinion?

Java is much more controllable in my opinion. if you did end up getting bedrock, what device would you use?

what difference does it make them the same

They are definitely not the same.
But whatever version you enjoy is fine. OP asked an age old divisive question that does not lead anywhere except tribalism.

oops, I think I'm getting ahead of myself by calling them the same.

It's clear that Bedrock will soon be turned into Java. It’s a pity that they most likely won’t take the pluses from both editions and don’t blind them into one, single version
1
I only play Java, but if Mojang achieves parity, Bedrock will be the definitive version. Although currently, Bedrock is still better for me.

Java.

I think alot of people ppl would tell you, straight off the bat,
That JAVA IS BETTER,
But honestly?
They both have pros and cons :P
If I had to vote, I'd vote java, but bedrock has some cool things about it :)
All in all, It's probably worth buying java if you're interested tho, because it is good :3

Here comes the war...

Java for SURE! Our server is based on Java and we wouldn't have it any other way

It depends on what your needs are, but most of the time, Java will be better. But, there are pros and cons to each. I personally prefer some aspects of Java, and other aspects of Bedrock, but overall would play Java more, if my cousins had it, but since they only have Bedrock, I have to play on Bedrock. Some of the good things about Bedrock are that it's cross-platform, works with your Xbox account, and is more efficient on lower-end devices. It also has featured servers which you can join quickly. And, if you have a good enough device, Bedrock supports ray tracing if you have a good enough RTX graphics card and you're playing on Windows. Also, it has some quality of life stuff, such as the way placing blocks works and how coordinates show up in the corner at all times, although I dislike how you have to turn them on using a gamerule. Also, bridging is very different on Bedrock than it is on Java/ You can literally just look forward and place blocks in front of you without ever having to sneak. Trust me, it might sound crazy, but it works, and is not some kind of speedrunner/very professional hardcore gamer kind of thing that you have to master. My cousin even does it on mobile very easily. The cons are that you can't downgrade to previous versions, and there are a lot less mods and servers for Minecraft Bedrock than there are for Java. This leads me to the pros for Java, which there are quite a lot of. For starters, Java has a debug screen, which is very useful sometimes, although sometimes might be cheating, depending on how you look at it. It also has a stronger community, with an endless amount of mods, worlds, commands, and just content in general being made for Minecraft Java edition. Also, geyser servers are based on Java, meaning that if you were to play a Geyser server from both platforms, the Java server generally feels more comfortable. You can also downgrade to older versions, and you will probably find more tutorials for Java than you will for Bedrock, again just because of how strong the community is. Also, since Java is older than Bedrock, the community seems to have more nostalgia towards Java edition. To me personally, I know this is going to sound stupid, but I have both versions, and I've actually played Bedrock way longer than Java, because I got Java just recently in November, and Java just feels beter. It's the vibe of it. Bedrock has a weirder vibe, like something is just off. But, going back to logical arguments, Java also tends to have less bugs than Bedrock, with Bedrock currently being at 1.19.71 last time I checked, while Java is only at 1.19.4. Now I'm no developer, so I have no idea what those version numbers mean, and I might be wrong judging only by the numbers, but from personal experience, Bedrock is way more buggy, even though it is more efficient in loading chunks, your world, etc. Don't get bugginess and efficiency confused. Also, a few interesting features Java has that Bedrock doesn't are banners. You can name a banner and make a map, and the banner will show up on the map, allowing you to easily mark things. Also, you can put banners on shields, making some cool designs. The cons are though that Microsoft seems to be supporting Bedrock slightly more than Java, even renaming them on Windows, with Minecraft Bedrock Edition now being called simply Minecraft, and the original Minecraft now being called Minecraft Java Edition. I don't know if this is a pro or a con, it can be both, depending on how you look at it. Also, I've noticed that Java's world generation seems to be a bit more interesting, at least to me personally, with the kind of wild and fun terrain generation you wouldn't get on Bedrock. This is really noticeable in hills, cliffs, etc. In conclusion, they both have their pros and cons, so it's nice to have both versions to test them and see which you prefer, and I think both versions are good in their own ways, and I'm not going to jump onto the Bedrock sucks bandwagon, but from personal experience and from asking current Bedrock edition players, most current Bedrock edition players will still prefer Java, only getting Bedrock because they don't have a PC or some other reason. I hope this helps.

Bedrock is better because it can be played on almost any platform.
1
Bedrock is over-monetised and has lots of bugs, the optimisation in bedrock edition is good, but at what cost! For example the bamboo jungle in bedrock edition looks so bad, just walk away for a few blocks and ALL the bamboo disappears.
1
Java is better bc pretty much every texture pack or any modding thingys are for java so yeah...
2
should outside 3rd party content be counted? i think for the BASE game bedrock is better. but java is customizable.
1
it's allowed.
1
than java be better.

if you get pc java, you can get pc bedrock too, so win win(2in1)
Console, mobile etc. doesn't count to the promotion

Fabric is a mod loader, meaning it allows for easy compatibility with mods. The Fabric loader doesn't improve performance by itself, it allows to install and toggle performance mods.
I'd recommend Sodium, Lithium and Phosphor, three performance mods made by the same team (which means they are fully compatible with each-other) and are compatible with most other mods. Do note that although these three don't need it, most other mods will also need the Fabric API to work (it will always be written on the mod page).

Don't get phosphor, get starlight. It's faster.
I've got a list for you: [ L I N K ]
You can go to modrinth.com and see all the mods. Whatever isn't there is over at curseforge.

I'm sorry?

The fabric mod loader. Built for java edition. Get better speeds than Optifine or forge or bugrock with more customizability at any computer.

if you already have bedrock you got java for free...
2
I know, by now...
5
I’m more of a bedrock person myself
4
It's now possible to get the other edition of Minecraft for free if you have one of them.
4
huh...

Java has mods, no market place with scammy content, shaders, great servers, better & more commands.
Bedrock has free multiplayer, faster & better chunk loader, more resource/behavior pack abilities.
Both versions have their pros and cons but if I was forced to play only one forever, I'd choose Bedrock because of its free multiplayer.

Smart, also commands are easier on Bedrock.
1
True. But the classic is always better.

Java has a better modding scene, which makes me very sad,
but I think both are good. Especially Java since Bedrock misses a bunch of features that Java has.
