there is a mod for 1.12 that adds coloured lights! however, adding coloured lighting to the base game probably won't happen as it lags the hell out of your game as it would have to render different colours as well as the different light levels instead of just one colour. (I'm not 100% sure if this is how Minecraft's lighting engine works, I'm just taking an educated guess based on my experience with the mod I linked.)

if Mojang were to add coloured lighting it would probably be a bedrock feature as that already supports RTX iirc. not super sure on java, but there's shaders like SUES PTGI that allows different coloured lighting

I would like multicolored lighting. You can change the global lighting color temperature/hue in certain traditional shaders, and in some special shaders like SEUS PTGI you get the luxury of matching lighting colors to the overall color of the light emitting block, or stained glass changing the color as well. I would also like lanterns to be toggleable with a right click or something like that. I do!!! I've been wanting something like this for a long time! Since classic edition.

I think it would be an amazing idea. But mojang may not ever do it because of the complexity of it. Lighting isn't easy in Minecraft.
