What? If you want iris on forgevjust download oculus and sodium it should work exactly as with fabric. Plus I've had way better performance than with optifine too.

and if you want mods that change the game a lot definitely use forge

but if you want vanilla+ mods use forge because quark is the best vanilla+ mod there is and it is a forge mod

if you want mods like Jet's Better Exploration use fabric or quilt

and yes if you want performance or client side mods use fabric or quilt

this feels like a bait post, but imma bite - yeah honestly i personally PREFER forge when i'm playing modded, but there are some other great alternatives, like fabric is the best for client-side mods and performance.

First up, optifine sucks. Every optifine version above 1.12 breaks with most mods in existence, other mods can get you a wayyy better fps boost and they work with each other, and don't get me started on the shader and resource pack features. There is a billion of mods to replicate it, just choose the best ones.

The mod loader thingy is not that simple. For a casual player, you just choose based on what mods are on which loader. If you wanna do a normal modpack, forge is the option. However, if it's 1.21 neoforge is better to use. It can run almost any forge mod, and many devs are switching to neoforge only (if you are interested in stuff like why does it exist recommend watching a youtube video about it). For client side mods, it is the best to use fabric. Most client side mods are fabric only and the best ones too. Few pretty popular devs have switched to quilt, a loader that can run both quilt and fabric mods. It is used rarely tho and it seems like the devs are back on fabric too. Also, forge mods don't have to be tagged as neoforge mods to be able to run on neoforge, it's just on the dev if he tries the mod on neoforge and tags it, or if he intentionally supports it. Same goes with fabric and quilt.

Now the performance and customization thing. Just sodium on it's own gives you better FPS boost than optifine, and doesn't break with almost any other mod (never seen any that would break it and I'm a very modded and technical guy). Iris is better than optifine for shaders too, as a sodium shader alternative. Combine it with mods to replicate optifine's other features, more optimization mods and here you go. You can just go on modrinth and select the optimization filter. Anything above 100k downloads should be great, but remember to not download everything from the 60 pages of mods it will show. You can also get more mods for client side stuff, like me with over 100 client side mods for the "semi-vanilla" client. Also, if you are in an Optifine Cult or something idk, there's a thing called optifabric. Don't know anything about it except that it exists as fewer people actually use it, but it exists.

There's also another thing I wanna share with you guys, Sinytra Connector and KiltMC. Both experimental, kiltmc VERY experimental tho. Sinytra connector is a mod that allows you to run fabric mods on forge, it is not currently too good with compatibility, but many times it runs, not rarely without issues too. Kiltmc can only be obtained from github right now, as it is in a very early state and doesn't work most of the time. You need a github account to get it, if you do coding you probably have already.
