A sequel would be redundant and a bit stupid. Either a new game, like dungeons for example, or nothing.

Just keep updating the current game, why change something good that has proved itself over and over again, a new game or sequel will only be a disappointment as it will either look too much like the original that there's no reason to buy it, or they change so much that the minecraft minecraft open world feeling is gone.

One good update with version control. I'm a bit tired of all the sequels in the industry, and I wouldn't ask this question of a company making something specific I like.

I like the idea of multi-story Minecraft. Because from punching wood to killing the ender dragon gets a bit boring. They could make a new story line for after killing the ender dragon. It would be cool if these parts of one big story would remain unlocked, so that you could always create a new world at a stage with appropriate "starters chest".
One problem with that is that Minecraft doesn't have the content to allow this, because the ender dragon already requires OP gear (or skills which I don't have).

Neither. Updates to the current game. There isn't much point to a "Minecraft 2" type game unless they wanted to completely overhaul the engine and make MAJOR gameplay changes, imo.
