Chiaroscuro Writing Extravaganza Recruitment
Summer is finally beginning to wind down, which while that means dreading the upcoming school year for some, it also means the return of more pleasant weather. Thus, it’s time once again for a Chiaroscuro-branded event.
This time, I’m trying something different: instead of it being a competitive tournament where contestants each create their own entries, there will be a single final product that will showcase the work of everyone involved. Before we get to the rules, I’ll first explain how this works. There are three ways that I can set this up:
- Participants are completely randomly lined up in a certain order. Then, in that order, participants will take turns contributing to a continuously-growing short story until all participants have contributed, at which point the story is completed.
- Participants decide the order that they go in by referendum. Then, the process is the same as previously described.
- Participants will all begin a story in the first slot. Then, for the next slot, the stories are rotated such that each individual’s story is passed down to another participant. Thus, the end product of this method is not one large story, but many large stories.
Here are some general rules for this event:
- Entries are due on the date assigned to you, with no exceptions. This is to ensure that the person following you has ample time to complete their portion and the whole project is not delayed.
- Stories must be in English, but short non-English phrases are accepted.
- By entering into this event, you acknowledge and accept the responsibility that the schedule requires and you commit to being respectful of your fellow participants’ writing skills and their time.
Every participant in this challenge will be awarded a participation medal and the opportunity to be a part of a big project like this. You can join this effort by commenting on this thread. Please, come by and write!

I like the idea of method 1, letting everyone write a bit of one large story. Just two questions:
1. How much time would we have before the person after us has a go?
2. How long or short does our piece have to be?

I want to keep them reasonably short just so that things don't drag out too much, so I was thinking maybe 2 weeks per person to write something over 500 words.
3
Oh, and in the end, could you please highlight which bit was written by whom?
4
I was thinking that each person would post their part to their personal accounts and then I would compile them in the end to a single collection.

FFA seems cool, and I'm intrigued to see how this would work, I may not be confirmed now (just need some more details as to how it'll work), but just know that I am interested.

FFA would involve everyone writing a piece for every time slot of the competition, like a sort of hot potato but instead of there being one potato everyone starts with their own potato.

This sounds exciting. I'd love to participate in it!
