Did you build a space station, alien ship or other otherworldly scene yet? 😁 Perhaps you're still working on the blueprints, or looking for teammates to join you on your journey to outer space. The Project 2048 | Space Exploration Build Contest will be open for entries until August 26. Make sure you don't miss it! There's $350 worth of prizes to be won. 😃



The Medieval Times Skin Contest already has 239 entries, ranging between knights, blacksmiths, queens, jousters and more medieval marvels! Make sure to head over to the entries page and support your favorite skins, because your diamonds count as votes for which skins make it to finalist. 😮 If you haven't made your entry yet, do make sure to get pixel-painting in time. The deadline for this contest is August 19!

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

MINECRAFT ON THE RISE 1Man1Game posted an interesting video about Minecraft making a comeback, describing the game as "The Little Engine that Could"! In this podcast, he speculates why Minecraft is going through a boom as well as gives you tips on how to gain views on your Minecraft YouTube videos while Minecraft is at its' peak in popularity! He also teases that he might update some of his own Minecraft tutorials. We're crossing our fingers that he will, as we miss his Minecraft content!

SPLATOON MODELING Member PixelFrosty has some mind blowing skills in modeling and rendering. They keep a Collection of Renders in a PMC blog, both Minecraft and non-Minecraft ones. They also have a YouTube channel with videos that show the (sped-up) process of making these amazing models and renders. This week, a new video was published for the first time since 4 months, in which Frosty shares this impressive modelling of Splatoon character SwordFish and their weapon SharkTooth. 😁

TOUHOU SKIN PACKS
PMC member HatThing took on the epic challenge of making skins of each and every character from the Touhou game series. If you haven't heard of Touhou before, you can find an informative video on Hat's Touhou Megapack submission.

Hat was inspired to take on the challenge after making a single Touhou skin. Since then, the packs contain a total of 55 skins, with 5 extra skins listed in the blog as well. And that's only 4/12 of the game packs made. 😅 We asked Hat to share some fun facts about the project, and we learned that their favorite character is Yuyuko, and the trickiest character to make into a skin was Ran.

This week, Hat published the fourth pack with a total of 16 skins included. They managed to get that done at an incredible pace, taking just two days for this pack. 😮 We asked Hat how that's even possible, and we learned that some skins are variations of previously made ones, which helped cutting some corners. Then still, this 16-piece pack still contains 8 skins entirely made from scratch. Impressive!

Hat shared some tips with us to for anyone starting projects of epic proportions like this: Sleep early, take frequent computer breaks, stay hydrated and generally make sure to look after yourself. Great advice!

GORGEOUS GLACIER This 4k x 4k mountainous marvel by qwryzu is based on Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. There's no shortage of adventure or scenery, here. There's plenty of mountains to mine and explore! We see several spots along the waters' edge that would be a perfect location to build a cozy cabin and call it home! What a lovely location to watch the sun rise and set! This terrain is 1 of 4 by qwryzu so be sure to check out the rest of their beautiful landscape projects! ⛰️
PERFECT PARADISE This next terrain by CommanderJL874 is inspired by the island of Las Cinco Muertes. Bonus points if you know what movie this fictional island is from! Hint: there were dinosaurs. This 4k x 4k map has no dinosaurs, but it does have custom trees and plants along with its' custom tropical terrain! We love the beachy coastline with a view of the reef from the shore. We don't know about you, but we think a waterfront beach house would make for a lavish life! 🌴
A COLD CLIMB Here's another snow sprinkled map by _Huffmanbran. This one, he explains is"One icy paradise founded by ancient Vikings years ago." Do you have the stamina like the vikings once did, to climb the perilous peaks? It would be worth the view, looking down on the landscape from so up high but we suggest building at the base so you don't freeze! If none of these terrains suit your fancy, check out this collection by MageZ that includes 9 survival ready maps with unique biomes!
