Can't connect to my brother's LAN world

We are on the same connection, and I tried turning off both of our firewalls, but it didn't work. It keeps saying "Connection timed out:connect" Please help. OS windows 7 on both

Well, this is a problem of 1 of my friends too. What we do is just make he send the map to his brother and it works fine.
So my tip: Make your brother send you the map you want to be on, and open the lan yourself.

I can see it on the list, and I do have a good connection, it just keeps timing out.
Edit: Sould I be able to see how many people are on and the green connection bar like normal servers?

If your brother's server DOES SHOW on the list, try making sure that you have a good connection to your wireless router. If it DOESN'T SHOW, than try making sure Java is allowed to do stuff with your firewall over LAN.
