How do I make my avatar a picture of my skin?

I've seen lots of people where their avatar was a picture of their skin. Now there was lots of different combos like only the head, the entire body, the body running, and so on. All I want to know is how do I do that. Anyone care to explain?

I used the skin previewer on MC SkinEdit , Took a screenshot in minecraft and then edited it all together in PhotoShop.
