Minecraft Freezes when joining server then gives error

Ok so before i start im going to say that i have done a good lot of research and am convinced i have found no fix regarding this error, many people have been getting the problem that freezes them for 10-15 secconds when they try join a server however i cannot join the server at all. I log into minecraft 1.4.2 and try joining any minecraft 1.4.2 server (not the same one each time) The first time i try to join a server it freezes for approximately 10 secconds then displays
Connection Lost
Failed to Login: <HTML></HTML>
I then try to join a server again and it gives me this error....

Failed to Login: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
It will then repeat this message every time I try to join a server, i would apreciate any help you can offer and would like to know if this is happening to other people aswell. It only started occuring after i updated to 1.4.2 but after downgrading to test it on 1.3.2 it now does the same thing on that version aswell.... ive deleted my minecraft bin, the entire folder etc etc.

Hmm... Then...uhm... Check you have a decent internet connection?
