"Username cannot be longer than 16 characters"?

I just found out how to put on Quake Pro and I thought it would look great on a parkour server. So I tried to go onto ItsJerryAndHarry's server, but it gave me an error: "Disconnected by Server: Username cannot be longer than 16 characters". This hasn't happened before when I went on there. My username doesn't have 16 characters (mine has 14) and the username for the server is 4 characters. What has happened?

Try to uninstall minecraft and then reinstall.

Server Glitch - this has happened to players on my server AND myself.
Just wait & log out completely out of your minecraft.
see if the problem still persists.

That's really weird. I have no idea. How about you send in an official Mojang Bug report?
