  • About

The Philologos Storywriting Institute [PSI] is a collective of storywriters that focuses on showcasing compelling writing, connecting writers to one another, and sharing our experiences to help both seasoned veterans and writing novices looking to learn.

The current focus of the group is fictional prose in a short or serial form, but may expand in the future to include poetry.

To apply for a posting position in the group, please contact Chiaroscuro with a writing sample and a short description of how you plan to positively contribute to the group community.

What is the purpose of the [PSI]?
Here at the [PSI], my hope is that no matter where you are in your creative writing journey, whether you're a published author or you're just starting out, you will find inspiration and tips here. You will find a collaborative and didactic environment, where you can give and receive constructive criticism, participate in events, and discover new writers.

Personally, I hope to inspire people of all ages to write creatively. I wouldn't be where I am in my writing journey without the help and the inspiration of one of my good friends, and so I now hope to continue her work and help other people get into creative writing.
What sorts of events will [PSI] host?
There are a number of events that you can participate in here at [PSI]:
    1. Writing Circles: Every so often, we will hold a writing circle where writers can get comments, edits, and constructive criticism from other writers on works that they enroll for the event.
    2. Story Jams: Writers will be given a short amount of time, perhaps as short as 24-48 hours, to create a short story from a given prompt that will be revealed at the start of the event. This gives us the opportunity to write freely without having to worry about polishing our work, and challenges us to think creatively in a short timeframe.
    3. Collaborative Writing: Members of a certain rank will be able to participate in events where multiple writers collaborate to bring together a single story, similar to the Writing Extravanganza events.
This list may change as time goes on, so stay tuned for what will be coming up in the future.
    What is PSiON Magazine?
PSiON is a monthly publication created by the admins of this group that showcase the best short stories, writing tips, and other news that we find. Some other possible articles that you might find in SCION include inspiration from current or past authors, interviews, and more.
Do I need to be a good writer to join?
No, not at all! We are welcoming to everyone, whether you are just starting out or whether you have just composed your latest masterpiece. We strive to be a fun, relaxed, collaborative environment where writers can learn from each other to improve their craft.
How do I earn ranks in the group?
The final ranks are yet to be determined, but members who have the ability to create posts have the obligation to facilitate group happenings and teach members, whether that be through showcasing other writers, holding workshops, or any other event/function that you can think of. Please contact Chiaroscuro for details about ranks.
    Any other questions?
If you have a question that you would prefer to keep private, message Chiaroscuro and I will try to reply within a couple days. If you feel your question would be beneficial for everyone, please post it in the Guestbook for everyone to see. Thank you and enjoy!
