avronaMinecraft Combat: dodge left, turn around, poke, dodge, poke, dodge, enemy dead.
Terraria Combat: poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, your sanity dead, or, jump, poke, jump, poke, your sanity dead.
In Terraria, most of the battle is done before the battle begins. I'm talking about equipment. Unlike Minecraft, that have a dozen weapons, one of them ranged, Terraria have innumerable weapons of all types. Not only do Terraria have ten times of Minecraft's weapons, but they also have passive equipment that give handy abilities, like double jump, fly, anti-gravity, track nearby players, and of course, the classic combination of as many abilities you can do. In Minecraft? Yeah, we have potions. And that's that. Important to say that in Terraria, players have the ability to jump and run around much quicker than in Minecraft, making room for way more creative battle scenes than in Minecraft.
avronaIT'S NOT FUN! AT ALL! DO THESE CAPS MAKE ME SOUND ANGRY BECAUSE I AM ANGRY. ANOTHER EXAMPLE WHERE THE 2D IS TERRIBLE IS IN EXPLORATION! SUCH A KEY PART OF A SANDBOX GAME!
In Minecraft, you have a few structures and a few limited biomes to explore. It doesn't take much skill and equipment to be able to explore everything.
Terraria? Yeah, to explore more than half of the world, you need to have good enough equipment. No way you'll make it to the underworld or The Corruption without being prepared. You'll need to gather at least two flying abilities to be able to survive in the underworld at all, because of all the lava. And while it is possible to cross the chasms in The Corruption using blocks, the constant Eater of Souls enemy spawn will either kill you on the spot or force you to withdraw.
avronaImagine for a minute that you have yourself a small home in Terraria. Then you go exploring left, find awesome stuff and come back. Then you go right, find awesome stuff and go back. Then underground. Then.... I don't know. In Minecraft you have 6 MORE directions!
Kinda true. In Terraria, you can only explorer the west, the east, the sky or the ground. But every time you come back home with better equipment, the further you can go every time. Especially underground, as said before.
avronaThere are so many other example like this, like the construction part like all of the above suffer from the 2D design.
I AM STILL ANGRY AT THIS GAME. ITS ONLY SAVING THING IS THAT IS HAS MORE ITEMS BUT WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING MORE ITEMS IF YOU HAVE A DIMENSION LESS OF SPACE TO PUT EVERYTHING!
As this is a sidescroller, you can naturally place all items in a 2D world. While it might seem like the game is pure 2D, there is actually two layers with blocks placeable, because the background is editable too. This qualifies Terraria to be 2.5D, two dimensions, but still it got depth.
avronaIt's irritating and it melts out my sanity with its inafficiency and lack of fun, it's too easy to conquer learning curve, with combat challenge being created by running straight left or right and purely depressing gameplay that so irritating, boring, and fast-paced only at times. 2D and sandbox gameplay should not go together! They are to things that don't work togehter and it's 1000x more aggravating than fun.
Not sure what you meant by that. Did you mean Terraria is way to easy? Or did you repeat yourself, saying that sandbox and 2D doesn't couple?
Terraria is way more challenging than Minecraft, at some later points in the game, enemies actually serves to destroy your buildings, and you need to set up defenses and defend your NPCs.
avronaSummary:
Terriara is Minecraft done well in the content but not in dimensions. Add another one in and we have a good rival to Minecraft. But as it is now, Terriara is rubbish. It is like a mix of a sandbox game and a platformer game creator like Mario Maker, which is what Terriaria boils down to for me. A cheaper version of Mario Maker with a Minecraft skin.
So you're saying you want to turn Terraria into a legitimate Minecraft copy by making it 3D? And you have already stated Terraria is a Minecraft copy? Whatever, hypocrite.
And are you really comparing Mario Maker with Terraria, just because there are building elements in both games? Might as well say The Forest is a rubbish survival game copy of Minecraft then.
"Terraria: A cheaper version of Mario Maker with a Minecraft skin."
This statement is so silly I won't even try to counter it.
From the looks of it, you played Terraria for half an hour and then concluded with the game being a Minecraft copy.
