The unknown is a fascinating entity: On one hand it's the greatest fascination of all, something that you want to discover and figure out. On the other hand, it's also the entity that scares one the most.

I often say this, and I believe it holds true in most given scenarios, but I want to apply it to a common topic on pmc and in regards to pmc skinmaking specificially: Skin styles and changing them.

Skin styles stagnate as one grows afraid of change; change being the unknown variable of the equation. "What will my followers think?", "Will my new ideas be better?" are common worries: These are natural to worry about. However, the answer will only be given by your own fascination to find out the answer to those questions, and you do that by trying it out. Usually other people are as interesting in experimentation and new ideas as you are, so by any means, going for it is a great idea.

This leads to a second situation: Don't get stuck in something you don't want to do in regards to skinning on pmc just to please others. You're spending your free time doing this, have fun with it. As soon as the fun of it is gone, you lose out on a lot. Make sure you always have fun with your hobbies lads, and if you want to try something new, don't hold back, discovering the unknown is the greatest source of fascination and awe!

I'm really sorry.. I need a break from posting. Things in my real life are very stressful right now and I can't handle trying to post content for a Minecraft site on top of all of it. I hope you understand.

I'm going to take a few minutes to be completely honest about my content. I'm sorry if this comes across as attention-seeking; it isn't intended to sound that way.

In general, I dislike my style because 1. It takes anywhere from 2-4 hours to complete a single skin, 2. My lightsourcing technique makes it difficult to create skins that are asymmetrical, and 3. I hardly ever like the way they look when they're finished. I tend to prefer shading styles sort of in the vein of the "classic" Minecraft skin creators.

However, if I developed a new shading, I feel like it would be seen as trading originality for convenience.

And I admire and adore each and every one of them! They are always so creative and interesting, not to mention bright and colourful. But if you want to change your style or shading I completely understand, so if you really want to, I say do it! I traded my complicated style for a pretty ugly and stupid one because I enjoyed it more, and it seems to be liked more than I expected.

But whatever you want to do is fine, it's your choice, not ours.

A few years years ago I realized I super hated my style. So I ditched it, and even though I rarely skin I felt like I improved greatly just because I liked them more, and actually liking my skins made me want to make them better! In all honesty, i don’t think people really care when you change your style. So go for it, if it makes you happy!

I'm sure any shading you tried would look nice, and I completely get wanting to have an easier style. you could experiment with simpler styles and see if A. you like the way your skins look and it gets across the effect you want and B. if people like the simpler shading.

imo I like simpler styles just bc they're easier to look at, but that's just me :)

That's definitely the right attitude to have imo, I think you worded it pretty well moreover. Doesn't matter if you're well known or not, if you're not having as much fun as possible, seek to maximize that before anything else. Your advice is great! (x

I agree with what tae said. do whatever is most fun for you- skinning isnt your job, its a hobby. It shouldnt be tedious and frustrating, so I totally think you should experiment with new and easier shading styles. I'm sure you could find smth that is easier but also still pretty! I highly doubt anyone will judge you for experimenting with shading haha. If they do, thats pretty messed up as you arent working for us or anything. Most important thing is to make sure you are enjoying it :)

Caring about attention is fine: If you repeatedly mention the numbers your submissions, wall posts etc. pull, you care about the attention you're getting. It gets annoying as soon as you claim you do not care about it, while still clearly iteratively mentioning and talking about the numbers you pull. If you care about attention, just admit and accept that you do; there's literally nothing wrong with doing so. Trying to convince others you do not care, while you talk about said attention repeatedly is what's annoying, not that you want the attention in the first place. This is not to encourage attention-seeking which will also get annoying, but moreso that it's fine to subtly or remotely care about how well your stuff does, and that admitting to such is definitely better than constantly saying you don't care while you clearly do.
