It's a little hard to give some good direction if you don't have any samples of your current work to show, but what's helped me the most was just practicing pixel art in general. It doesn't necessarily have to be minecraft related, but just getting to know the workflow a little better when dealing with small resolutions and a limited number of colors.

Lospec has a number of good tutorials that cover a variety of topics, as well as some beginners guides to get you started
    https://lospec.com/pixel-art-tutorials/tags/beginner

It also helps to just download and study skins that other people have made, just to get an idea of what their techniques are. Not saying you should post re-creations of other people's work, but it can be a good way to practice.

The effects look pretty fancy. I recommend bringing the text to the front though and make it look more distinct. It's getting kind of muddled by the background and a couple of the letters aren't very noticeable at first.

    TomConnHello people of PMC
...or should we keep fighting for the Java version?

There's nothing to fight for. It's not going anywhere for a long time, don't worry.

With that being said though, I'm still sticking to java since it's mostly what I make content for, and it has more materials to work with as far as building goes. (Off the top of my head, Win10 doesn't have things like stained glass yet, which is a real let-down). You should still be able to build some awesome things with win10 (the trailers from E3 looked pretty nice, and there's enough that expansive maps are being sold on the marketplace, but you may run into some bumps if materials you typically like to use aren't currently there.

To my understanding, all Java users got a free access key for the win10 edition, so I'd recommend just trying it out yourself and seeing how you like it. And if it doesn't float your boat, then all you really lose is a few hours of your time, haha.

SkyArmy server back in 2013 I think. I was still kind of new to the game though so I felt pretty lost haha.

I read a Eurogamer article about them defending their decision, and this is mostly what came up.

"Jim Ryan: Yeah. We've got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base. Minecraft - the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it's all ages but it's also very young. We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it's something we have to think about very carefully."

Though it feels a bit vague to me.

I usually use MCskin3d (You can download it on PMC. Just search for it.) It's super useful, and has a lot of models that you can directly paint onto, including most mobs. You could also use it as a skin viewer while you paint your skin in an external image editor (Photoshop/GIMP/Paint.net).

I'm not sure what to give in the way of starter tips, but for me it did help to watch people's work process either in tutorials or timelapse videos of their skinning on youtube. It also helps to read up on some pixel art tutorials if you just want to improve on things like colour selection or shading.

It helps to show your past experience rather than say "Just trust me ." I recommend adding a link to a portfolio on your site, so people can find examples of your texture work all in one place.

I really don't think Java edition is going anywhere, at least for a while. They're still working on it, and hiring new staff for it. The updates for 1.12 and 1.13 feel pretty major with the functionality that they add too. It's just not the poster child anymore, and they view it more as the "community edition" of Minecraft. I'm still going to take some time to get used to playing and making content for the unified version just in case though.

I mean another way would be to embed ads and put much heavier emphasis on microtransactions (DLC/cash items) but with how the game's been established, I'm sure that would cause a good amount of backlash. There's already a handful of people upset about the marketplace implementation.

    Things cost money.

It helps if you actually tell people what exactly it is you're trying to do, especially if you're looking for people who don't mind working for free.

What's the genre of your game? What's it about? 2d or 3d? What engine are you using? What main mechanics will it have? What will you be contributing? etc.

There's also Hitfilm 4 Express. It's totally free and can do a lot of what Sony Vegas can do, I think. I've also found that, for me at least, it was more user friendly than Lightworks, and there's more tutorials online for it.

But it's still definitely a step up from Windows Movie Maker and you're going to want to take some time to learn how to use it before you start making full videos with it.

I tried this once when I accidentally converted a 1.10.2 world to 1.11. Structurally it will be fine, but from what I could tell, all of the currently spawned entities were removed. (Villagers, mobs, item frames, etc). Chests were emptied, and all of my signs were wiped clean. Thankfully I had a backup save of the world.

There's probably more that I missed too. I don't recommend doing it.

Pink would definitely feel more unique. I was debating on orange but it feels more like a sherbet colour than an autumn leaf colour, so I'm not sure how well it would work imo. The yellow felt a bit too neon, though if the saturation were lowered a bit, it would probably be a similar colour to some kinds of ginkgo leaves.

But still pink trees would be fun to have haha.

You can use almost any paint program for pixel art as long as it allows you to place individual pixels. If you want a program that's tailored to pixel art specifically, I'd recommend Aseprite. It's fairly inexpensive and it's made making stuff like scenery tiles and game sprites a lot easier for me.

But again, you can do pixel art in almost any paint program. I make 90% of my minecraft textures in GIMP.

Dude it's not like a serious situation if OP quits. If they want to come back they can always just redownload the client later. If a game's not fun for someone anymore, then they don't need to keep playing it.

Do you just have a hard time keeping your lines smooth? I haven't done enough tablet drawing in GIMP to know if it has this feature, but a lot of drawing programs out there have a feature called a stabilizer, which helps keep your lines smooth so you can draw them in one stroke. You can set it to a value you're comfortable with and then you're good to go. Medibang paint has it for sure and I highly recommend it. (It's free and designed with digital drawing in mind)

Alternatively, if your builds fit within the size limitations (32x32x32) you can use structure blocks to save a structure file, copy it over to your server map, and then re-import using structure blocks.
