Everyone starts somewhere. I started doing pixel art two years ago by editing a few textures I didn't really like in Minecraft. I got better and better, and I used other's work as references (I'm not saying to copy, but learning off of them is a good idea). Eventually I hit a point where I felt like I wasn't improving, even though I very obviously was, but I kept going. So far I have been studying pixel art for a little over one and a half years, and I still try to locate my flaws and improve on them. For example, right now I'm not too great at doing large textures like paintings, so I'm practicing new methods that are commonly used in larger textures, such as dithering and more dramatic hue-shifting. A good place to start is this tutorial, however there are tons of amazing discord servers like Artist's Refuge that can help you out.
