It particularly dwells around human buildings, in towns and villages. It cannot be found in forests and deserts.
It eats a bit of everything, especially seeds, but can also eat a lot of insects, fruits and invertebrates.
Some consider it a pest, as it can often eat a lot of crops in the fields.
The male is easily recognizable by his gray spot on the top of his head and his black bib. The juvenile resembles the female.
