Story time hehe
I think I'm becoming IGEBM
Merry Christmas! For Christmas, i thought I'd share something cool that I've been working on
So, If you don't know already, I have a love for custom capes, as shown with all my models. Today, I remembered that there's a portion of a cape that is dedicated to an elytra. How it works, is that, if you're wearing a cape that has a part of the texture for the elytra that aligns with the elytra's UV map on the cape texture, and you wear an elytra, the game will scan that texture for the elytra portion, and if it fines a texture there, it will change the texture of your elytra to the one on the cape. Pretty cool, right!? But then I realized, I can't view how a custom elytra would look, as I can't play minecraft or wear a cape :( While I was browsing around some cool cape designs, such as bonfire, an awesome cape maker on twitter/x (link to her tumblr, I remembered she made a tutorial about how she renders her capes, so I hopped on a different device that didn't have twitter/x blocked, and I looked at the tutorial. I learned a whole lot about it, and got to download a couple valuable assets, such as the cape.json, as well as learning how the the UV Positions of each part of the cape texture. I had looked at some of her posts, such as an advent calendar of capes, with one of my favorites being this one:
It's a really pretty monarch butterfly cape and elytra :D
I love this sm
Anyways, back to the yapping
I saw the awesome Elytra, which was completely different from the cape, and the fact that these 2 seperate designs shared the same png as well as the game knowing which texture to use amazes me to no end :D. Anyways, I wanted to learn how to render an elytra just like my capes, as I wouldn't be able to view them in game, blockbench was my best bet. (and it hasn't failed me yet!) I went back the her cape tutorial, and among the comments, a kind person linked a video to an amazing blockbench elytra viewer tool by TuxBowDie (huh, he has a pmc account?!?!?!) Which I'll link here. I'll let you watch the video, but in summary, he linked a download to a model he made that has an elytra and skin in several poses, with you being able to load up or paint your own cape. Once you load up your cape, it will take the elytra part of the texture and slap it onto all the elytra models. (I think, and would be happy to be proven wrong as I am a beginner to ALL of this) Since I wanted it to be my skin, I deleted the skin model and replaced it with my skin, making the model an alex arm and giving it a 2nd later. A quick summary of what I learned, is how the cape and elytra occupy the same space. In order to make this happen, you must align the textures of the cape and elytra so that they align in the UV map. I'm not gonna talk about this more as I already linked the tutorials to both.
ANyWaYS, looking at bonfire's work, and with my current knowledge and assets, I decided to render my own cape and elytra similar to how she did
this is the finished product!
I'm pretty proud of it :D
I'm so proud of this :>
AWESOME DISCLAIMER:
I made this cape so that, if you manage to wear it, with all the iobit or optifine stuff, and wear an elytra, the cape should look like the examples provided above. This is not confirmed as I haven't and probably won't test this for awhile.
Anyways, Merry Christmas, and have a happy holidays!

This is awesome!
I have a question though. How do you display your skins like that in the last image?
I took a screenshot of all the skins, capes, and models individually and then went to an image editing site, like pixelied to add the background, watermarks, and to add them all in the same image
feel free to pm me if you have more questions!
You should make the elytra as Flamingo wings
(Yes, I did have top search whether or not Flamingos could fly)
I changed the dimensions via painting the whole thing different, instead of just hive styling the normal elytra shade if yk what I mean?
also
someone else also suggested i make one of those
also also
yeah I wrote an essay about flamingos just because them and tie dye were my whole branding
I learned that they could actually fly while researching lol
