This was originally meant to be an entry for the Mobs Reimagined Community Event. I was not able to get the skin finished on time however, so I put it on the side and worked on in now and again whenever inspiration struck me. Ultimately I'm happy with the outcome, as it gave me time to polish the skin.

The spider itself is mostly based on a wolf spider. They are known for running their prey down, instead of using a web to capture prey as seen in most common spiders. I decided to use it as a reference since I thought the description somewhat matches the Minecraft spider.

If you want to use this texture then I highly recommend using the glowing eyes texture in the resource pack. Name the image spider_eyes.png and place it in the assets -> minecraft -> textures -> entity folder (not the spider folder).
NOTE the glowing eye texture is shared across both the normal and cave spider variants and there doesn't seem to be a way around this without also editing the models.
