The mod adds a self-writing fullscreen map to your Minecraft client. Works as a separate mod but is a lot better with Xaero's Minimap. The reason why it's available separately is to keep Xaero's Minimap as light-weight as possible.

The mod is still in development! Please report any bugs that you encounter or otherwise they won't get fixed. Use PM to report bugs.

Install by dropping the jar into the Minecraft Forge's mods folder, as usual. A step-by-step guide is available on the download page.

  • Self-writing world map. Different for every world/dimension/server.
  • Works in Singleplayer, Multiplayer and on Realms.
  • Interactive interface. Open by pressing M. Move the map around with your mouse and zoom in/out using the mouse wheel, similar to Google Maps.
  • Automatic MultiWorld / Lilypadded servers support.
  • Minecraft Realms support (also with MultiWorld support).
  • Texture Pack support. Changing the texture packs updates the whole world map and not just the new chunks.
  • Cave dimensions support (similar to Nether).
  • Vanilla maps mode. Makes the world map look like vanilla paper maps.
  • Terrain texture customization.
  • "Footsteps" showing your most recent path.
  • Optional performance boosters.
  • Xaero's Minimap integration. The minimap mod will display chunks loaded by the world map. The world map mod will display waypoints from the Xaero's Minimap. Also works with Better PVP mod.
  • Off-screen waypoint menu that can be opened on the map GUI by placing the mouse cursor in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Selecting a waypoint from the menu with the mouse scroll wheel and clicking the right mouse button will quickly move the map view to the selected waypoint to speed-up map scrolling.You can also start typing a part of a waypoint's name to filter out unwanted waypoints. Pressing ENTER will restart the search.

Update 1.3.3 (MC 1.12.2, 1.12.1, 1.12, 1.11, 1.10.2, 1.8.9, 1.7.10):

* Fixed a crash caused by switching worlds very quickly while cache is saving.
* Fixed a very rare crash that just happened randomly (no point in explaining the details really).
* Fixed the huge FPS drop when playing without VSync.
* Some small improvements to the code which can potentially fix more unknown bugs.

Great Mal. But would it be possible to have a Funktion to Set the map on Zero? I want to map our farmworld which gets refreshed every month.


Also We have up to 7 different farmworlds and the map has difficulties to seperate the Maps. May it be possible to generatüe the map and to choose with which map he goes on for myself?

You can remove the world map data corresponding to the server/world in .minecraft/config/XaeroWorldMap.

I'm planning to rework the multiworld detection soon. Meanwhile, if possible, make the global spawn points different for each farmworld and the mod will differentiate them.

Possibly in the future but it will probably require revisiting the areas first (definitely on multiplayer) as the map data does not currently include height values.

You can use minecraft:spreadplayers <x> <z> 0 1 false <player> for now. But it can't target water

Because 1) a lot of people don't even want a world map, 2) if I included this in the minimap mod, then I would probably have to rename the mod because it would no longer be just the minimap, but "minimap" is a very searched word, 3) those who only want either the minimap or the world map are not bothered by a new update when nothing that affects them has been changed, 4) if I'm working on a big update for one of the mods, I can easily still put out small updates for the other mod.

version 1.13.0 and 1.13.1 makes my words crash every time, didnt happen with ver 1.12.5 i was using T_T going back to last functioning ver...




EDIT: Never mind, I read what you said to other guy and undated the minimap mod and now it works just fine... sorry for bothering.

PLEASE HELP ME! I downloaded the mod, but when I try to click on controls in my option menu, my game crashes :/ Could you explain why it happens? Or even help me? :)

I don't have this issue. Yes 1.12.2 works too. Do you have any other mods installed?
I have a couple of suggestions: The ability to add minimap waypoints from the worldmap, that'd be very cool.
Another suggestion: exporting a map(or a portion of it) as a PNG file!
Last one: The ability to draw on the map, like writing notes or drawing lines to separate areas, but in a way different than waypoints.

2) Already in the mod except the portion-only part, which is already planned.

Hello Xaero96, I literally just started using this mod but I have not been able to use it because my world crashes every time I try to load it. The game opens fine but it just crashes when I open my world. I tried to get the crash report but it doesn't seem to want to open. So I have copied the message that it shows me instead.

The game crashed whilst unexpected error
Error: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: xaero.map.MapLoader.getMapRegion(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;IIZ)Lxaero/map/MapRegion;

But both copy to clipboard and view crash report buttons don't seem to work so sorry

Update either the minimap mod or Better PVP mod to the latest version.
You need to update this to work with the most recent minecraft update that happened a couple days ago. It causes the game to crash now. Please hurry cause I love your mods!

Yeah, there was an update a couple days ago. It was a really small one, only took like 30 seconds to download. But since then this mod makes the game crash.

update: so turns out the crash only happens if i try to use the mod on servers that use minecraft realms. I can play for about 30 seconds to a minute, then it crashes out, and the next time I try to run minecraft it has to redownload the runtime. Its ONLY with this mod (your minimap mod works fine), ONLY on realms servers, and it started when there was a mini-update a couple days ago. Hopefully this will be enough info for you to figure it out.

Okay, it was probably an update of the Realms library. Unfortunately I don't have access to a realm atm.
maybe add in right-click menus to allow teleportation to the place where you right-click and allow us to set a waypoint there as well all with a right-click menu. the menu could contain teleport, set waypoint, edit waypoint, and delete waypoint and anything else you would want to add to it.

Yeah, sorry. I appreciate your suggestions. I was just very busy with school and didn't feel like explaining the same thing for the 100th time :S
Basically, this requires rewriting a big chunk of the mod while making it more resource intensive. But yeah, I might implement it some time.

Is there any information you are willing to share on where/how you store the map and waypoint data?

I'm curious about the datastructures and what might be possible with them.

I'm also finding I'm using waypoints in a specific, structured manner (on SMP) and wondering if it is worth discussing it with you to see if it would be worth suggesting some functions based on my personal usage paradigm.

The map data is stored in
.minecraft/config/XaeroWorldMap
while the waypoint data is in
.minecraft/config/XaeroWaypoints.

I'm open to suggestions for improving the waypoints management.
Am I right in assuming the PNG tiles correspond to actual in-game map domains?

And I'm not sure what the waypoint datafields after the tag colour do (except the gui.xero... that's obviously a dialog handle or something) in my data they are all the same at 0 or false.

One of the things I find myself doing is using a standard label for particular landmarks - like a dark purple "+" for netherportals or a dark blue "T" for tourist spots. Wondering about the possibility for setting some configurable defaults for frequently marked items - so I drop a waypoint click that it's a netherportal and the label is my dark purple "+". Find a village, drop a marker, green V.

The PNG files are just cache for faster loading, the actual data is stored in the other files.

Basing default waypoint values on the location of the player is a very interesting idea! Not sure how easy it is to implement but it's definitely worth considering. Thanks!
You could also try it this way; when I make or edit the waypoint (not the quick way) I might get check boxes of "properties" that the location might have, for example "netherpoertal", "enchanting set-up", "minecart set-up" for me to check on that waypoint. Later when I'm looking at the map, I might mouseover the label and the tooltip might tell me that the location has a netherportal and a minecart station on the Jubilee Line. The properties would be player configurable too. You might create a property of "owner" with a pulldown of your friends' names.

- Zoom out further? Maybe as low as 1 pixel per chunk?
- Ability to share/back-up map data with other players (via email for example) to stitch together maps
- Ability to share/back-up waypoint data with other players (via email for example)

I doubt it'd be good for the performance. But we'll see.

Playing on multiplayer? Perhaps even realms?

If the global spawn point of the world on multiplayer changes the mod thinks that it's a new world. You can manually swap the map data folders to fix that. An ingame method of doing it will be released in a future update.
But if you're on realms then you can invite me (xaero96) to the realm and I can have a look.
I got the minimap one and was like 'MUST INSTALL' because I thought it'd make an exploring mod build so much better, but I thought 'where's the world map?'




Two days later, here we are.

I left the nether, everything worked fine
the loading screen end, and now the map is all black
I return to the nether, still all black :c

Edit: restarting minecraft entirely make it go back to normal

(speaking of, I found why everything was black in caves: I had turned off the lighting, and apparently that make everything go black)

There is an option in the mod... in the minimod too
Lighting, or light, and it can be on or off
I don't have my minecraft right now, but I'll check the exact name after... but yeah, if it's off, I get pitch black in caves
