What is Lycanite's Mobs?

This mod adds many new mobs to specific biomes, dimensions and other environments such as lava! These new mobs are mostly hostile but there are some passive ones too that can be bred for special food. Many mobs can be tamed, used as mounts and even summoned as temporary minion hordes!

This mod also adds deadly world events that start randomly every hour or so (highly configurable), these events spawn swarms of deadly mobs as well as other hazards!

This mod takes inspiration from other games and mythologies and is well known for it's Doom (by ID Software) inspired Demon Mobs for the Nether, but has much more than just that!

This mod uses the latest Forge, so just install forge and pop this mod in the mods folder.

Can I add this to my public modpack?

Yes you can! If you want to share this mod in your private/public mod pack, go ahead, just be sure to credit me (Lycanite) and leave a link to the mod website (big link below)!

  • New Mountain Mob Added: Yale - Farmable, Dyeable and Shearable for Wool! 
  • Bug Fix: Custom Item List entreies in the main config should now work again! 
  • Config Change: The way items are entered into the config has changed for 1.7.2. 
    • For cusotm mob drops items are added as: modname:itemname,metadata,chance,min,max
    • For custom item list entries: modname:itemname,metadata 

  • Note: The config page on this site is a bit dated now but will eventually be removed as I will add comments to the config on how to use it. Also I'm going to look into using the new forge mod config menus so things can be changed in game.

The Beastiary - Version 1.6.0 for Minecraft 1.7.2 : 06/06/2014 5:27:26 pm6/06/14

  • New Feature Added: The Beastiary - Look up each creature in game! 
  • Added Inventory GUI Tabs and the Minion Manager has a sexy new background! 
  • All tameable pets and mounts now require a special Treat item for taming. For example Ventoraptors can now only be tamed with a Ventoraptor Treat. Treats can't stack and aren't 100% guaranteed to work so you my need a few. This is designed to add more of a challenge to taming. 
  • Shamblers can now be tamed as pets, great for the garden! 
  • Changed some summonable mobs around: 
    • Trents and Trolls can no longer be summoned. Alternatives have been planned. 
    • Frostweavers and Skylus can now be summoned. 

  • Added various food items to the ore dictionary to match some vanilla items. For example Aspid Meat can be used in recipes that use vanilla Beef, excellent for mods such as Harvestcraft. 
  • Fixed a bug where temporary blocks such as Poison Clouds weren't dissipating after a while.

Shelled Horrors! - Version 1.5.4 for Minecraft 1.7.2 : 06/03/2014 5:46:28 pm6/03/14

  • New Saltwater Mob Added: Skylus - The first mob to use free underwater swimming, based on the flying movement! 
  • Added logic for the aggressive stance of pets and minions, they will now attack anything that they think is a threat towards the player, this checks: 
    • If the target is classed as a mob but not tameable 
    • If the target is tameable but hostile (untamed) 
    • If the target has the pet/minions owner targeted. 

  • Pets told to sit but in aggressive stance will guard their spot, Lurkers for example are perfect against those pesky Creepers as they run away and stealth after attacking. 
  • Added friendly fire to ranged pets/minions as well as a player damage event, this should stop the likes of Cacodemons from harming their owners and also should allow mods such as MyTown to easily protect agaisnt player pets in safe areas, etc. 
  • Fixed: "The %creature% seems to love you!" message. The creature's name is now shown.

Attack of the Killer Shrubs! - Hotfix C - Version 1.5.3c for Minecraft 1.7.2 : 05/28/2014 4:18:00 pm5/28/14

  • Hellfire now has a sound! 
  • Poison Clouds now have an animated texture instead of being particles only. 
  • Added language entries to Poison Clouds, Hellfire, Frostweb and Quickweb, they should no logner be called tile.whatever.name. 
  • Fixed a crash caused by Asmodi on death (when they try to spawn Trites). 
  • Crusks now burrow into the ground before disappearing again, instead of instantly. 
  • Poison Clouds are no longer invisible (due to new texture and particles working again).

Saucy Helix - Improvement B - Version 1.5.2b for Minecraft 1.7.2 : 05/14/2014 6:54:16 pm5/14/14

  • Made water/lava based mobs (Dwellers, Lacedon and Lobbers) smarter! They will no remember where the closest spot of water is and will actively search for water to retreat to when not attacking or near suffocation. 
  • Added a new config option "Mobs Attack Villagers" set to FALSE by default which means no mobs from this mod will attack villagers anymore unless you set this to true. This feature is to make this mod work nicely with Minecraft Comes Alive as they don't seem to fight back when attacked by custom mobs. 
  • Fixed Concapedes not using the maximum size limit! 
  • Fixed custom effects such as Weight and Paralysis only lasting for a few TICKS instead of SECONDS!

  • New Plains Mob Added: The Zoataur! This can be summoned as a minion too! 
  • Bug Fix: The Clink and Manticore Minions should now fight for their masters. 
  • Bug Fix: Minions with armor will no longer render the missing texture image, I will add actual armor textures for each one later. 
  • Added the Tarantula minion sounds. 
  • Unless there are any major bugs that need to be fixed, this will likely be the last update for Minecraft 1.6.4. The next update will be this update (1.5.1) but for Minecraft 1.7.2!

Rise My Minions! - Hotfix B - Version 1.5.0b for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 04/25/2014 1:36:31 pm4/25/14

  • Things should all be good server side now! Opening portals caused a crash, fixed now! 
  • Cinders and Lobbers are now bright (aren't darkened in dark areas). 
  • Kobold will no longer despawn if they're carrying items, unless they are minions in which case they will drop their inventory before despawning making them very useful for looting areas.

  • A new minion summoning system has been implemented! Press H to open the Minion Manager. You'll need to craft a Soulgazer and use it on mobs to learn how to summon them, not every mob can be summoned though. You'll then need a Summon Staff, by pressing and holding R you can choose which minion set you want to use.
  • Added advanced pet controls for both Minions and Pets, right clicking on a pet or minion will open the Pet/Minion GUI.
  • Fixed a crashing bug with custom Potion Effects (Weight and Paralysis).

The Verdant Web - Version 1.4.12 for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 04/11/2014 7:49:39 pm4/11/14

  • Tweaked the potion ID system a bit, raised defaults to start from ID 256. 
  • Added new event listeners to better protect riders from damage sources and potion effects. 
  • Tweaked the isInWater() vanilla method to check for lava if called on a lava creature, used for the pathfinder. 
  • Fixed a config issue where item lists didn't support spaces.

Fins and Lava - Hotfix C - Version 1.4.11c for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 04/06/2014 5:33:08 pm4/06/14

  • New global config setting: Spawn Weight Scale. This allows you to quickly scale all the weights of every mob from this mob. By default it is 1.0, setting it to 0.5 will half all the sapwn weights, use this if you want to see more of other mobs from other mobs or vanilla. 
  • Fixed a bug where Makas and Jousts had a chance of becoming alphas after breeding instead of just when they are growing up from infants. 

Fins and Lava - Hotfix B - Version 1.4.11b for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 04/05/2014 6:27:56 pm4/05/14

  • Water and Lava Mobs will now correctly check for surrounding solid blocks when spawning. 
  • Added a second check to mobs that spawn around block such as Fire, Lava or Portals. This should work as a fallback for mob spawning mobs. 
  • Dwellers should spawn now, only in swamps though. 
  • Concapede Segments will now check for at least one nearby Concapede Head if naturally spawning. They shouldn't naturally spawn at all though, this is just a fallback for weird configs and mob spawning mods.

  • I intended to make 3D projectiles but haven't had the time yet, this feature is still in the works though!
  • Fixed a big mob spawning issue where spawned mobs weren't counted as the correct spawn type, spawning should be pretty good now!
  • Fixed an issue where farmable mobs would sometimes despawn, I still need to do more testing on this to ensure that it is gone for good though!
  • Fixed a big issue where most monsters would NOT despawn!
  • The configs have been remastered, again, I recommend that your old ones are deleted.
  • New spawning and despawning settings have been added as per mob controls, you can now choose which mob can and can't despawn naturally.

The Frozen Web - Hotfix D - Version 1.4.9d for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/22/2014 11:36:25 pm3/22/14

  • !IMPORTANT! Please delete your config for the new default spawn settings. 
  • Fixed an insane issue with ranged attack mobs, their attack speeds were way too high, a little math mix up lol, should be fine now! 
  • Concapede Heads will now check if Concapede Segments are enabled before trying to spawn them. 

The Frozen Web - Hotfix C - Version 1.4.9c for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/22/2014 2:08:49 pm3/22/14

  • !IMPORTANT! Please delete your config for the new default spawn settings. 
  • Greatly improved the spawning system again! The default rates are pretty good now. 
  • Dwellers have decided that they only like murky waters from now are and so by default only spawn in Swamps. Future Freshwater mobs will inhabit rivers and lakes later on. 
  • Cinders no longer spawn as AMBIENT mobs, that was a terrible idea! Instead they now spawn as FIRE mobs, this uses a new spawning system unique to this mod that tries to spawn Cinders from fire blocks that players are around. This is highly configurable in the global config. I will be extending this system later to work with various blocks rather than just fire. This can be disabled if needed of course. 
  • Aspids will now run away when attacked instead of fighting back, it makes them easier to farm and also makes more sense naturally as they would use their poison gas to escape and use as a weapon instead of biting. 
  • Overhauled the difficulty system for this mod. Hard difficulty is now very hard! Normal is good for a bit of a challenge and Easy is now much easier. Mobs will not only do more or less damage but will move slower or faster, have more or less defense, attack at different speeds and more! 
  • Some now mobs now have defense where so much damage is reducded down to a minimum or 1 damage. Because of this some mobs such as Trents now have less health to balance out their new defense. 
  • Added Stat Modifier and Boost config options which allow you to scale the stats of various mobs. Can be applied per mob or in the global config per difficulty. Multipliers let you scale the attack of mobs and Boosts let you directly add or subtract (only available to Defense currently). 
  • Organised the config files a bit more. 

The Frozen Web - Hotfix B - Version 1.4.9b for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/18/2014 7:46:08 pm3/18/14

  • !IMPORTANT! Please delete your config for the new default spawn settings. 
  • Fixed mobs not spawning items, for definite this time! Some farmable mobs that you have gathered in game might not drop items but new ones that you find or breed will. 
  • Added 'Dynamic Persistence' where farmable mobs such as Pinkies can now be set to spawn as Monsters and despawn over time, but once fed, bred or moved out of the Nether, they will become persistent and never despawn naturally. This means Pinkies will spawn like the other Nether Mobs and should therefore not invade the Nether any more! 
  • Cinders now spawn as Ambient mobs by default (along with Bats), this makes them appear more frequently and also stops them from interfering with other mob spawns. 
  • Fixed climbing, mobs such as Eyewigs can now climb again! 
  • Tweaked some stats and spawn rates. All Nether mobs now use really high spawn rates, for some reason this is how vanilla mobs in the Nether work (Example: Belphs use a weight of 100 now to match the Zombie Pigmen default weight). 
  • New global config settings added: 
  • Debugging settings, set these to true for debug info, such as information of when a mob is spawned. 
  • Ability to disable all mob spawning done by this mod all together, use this when using a custom mob spawner such as JAS or Mob Spawn Controls 2, etc. 
  • Ability to disable dungeon spawners for this mod. 

The Frozen Web - Version 1.4.9 for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/15/2014 9:38:04 am3/15/14

  • New mob added: The Frostweaver! 
  • New projectile added: Frostweb Shot 
  • New block added: Frostweb 
  • Erepedes have been completely redesigned! They have a brand new model and textures. They are now hostile creatures until tamed and only spawn at night. They also receive a big mounted speed boost when moving across sand material blocks making them very effective desert and beach mounts. 
  • Dwellers should no longer suffocate in water! They will also no longer suffocate when standing on ground and under leaves in rainy weather as the rain leaks through the leaves to keep them moist. 
  • Reduced the attack damage of various mobs: Pinkies, Alpha Jousts, Jousts, Alpha Makas, Makas, Aspids. 
  • Reduced the default Concapede size limit from 20 down to 10, making them 11 entities long in total. You will need to delete your config for this to take effect. 
  • Concapedes can now also climb! 
  • Revamped the projectile code, most projectiles can't be used underwater now and can shot through tall grass, etc. 
  • Fixed an issue where Jousts and some other mobs would not always drop items. If this problem comes back, let me know and I can apply an even harder fix, should be fine though!

The Moose is Loose! - Version 1.4.8 for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/08/2014 7:14:50 am3/08/14

  • New mob added: The Jabberwock!
  • New effect added: Weight, this will pull you down reducing jumping, increasing falling damage and also pulling you to the bottom of rivers, lakes or oceans.
  • Improved the attack targeting AI with enemy and ally pack functionality. This means that some mobs will not compare their pack size with their targets pack size before deciding whether or not it is safe, such as Ventoraptors and animal herds. This means that your sheep farm in the plains will be safe if there is a very large herd and no large groups of Ventoraptors nearby.
  • Vanilla mob dungeons will now feature spawners for mobs from this mod. Any mods that use vanilla methods to get random spawners will also benefit from this. This applies for mobs that spawn as MONSTER only and uses their spawn rate where a spawn weight of 8 = a dungeon spawner chance of 200, the same as a Zombie Spawner chance. 4 = 100 the same for Skeletons and Spiders.
  • Ventoraptors can now only be tamed with Cooked Maka Meat.
  • Uvaraptors can now only be tamed with Cooked Concapede Meat.
  • Fixed the weird spawning issues at last! The spawning still isn't entirely perfect but you should see plenty of Makas now, etc! Turns out it was the Chunk Spawn Limit oncifg setting, this has now been removed and the vanilla default of 4 will always be used, it isn't exactly a chunk spawn limit, I'm not certain what exactly it does but it's nothing like how it is named!
  • The default spawn rates have been tweaked again, be sure to delete your config.
  • New Global Config Setting added: Allow Mob Taming, setting this to false will prevent players from being able to tame any mob from this mod. True by default.
  • New Global Config Setting added: Allow Mob Mounting, setting this to false will revent players from being able to mount their tamed mounts. True by default.
  • New Mob Setting added: Enable Default Drops: Setting this to false will remove all the default item drops from the specific mob (can be set per mob). This is useful if you want full control over what a specific mob drops.
  • Setting a mobs Spawn Weight and/or Spawn Group Max to 0 will prevent it from even trying to spawn at all what so ever, it won't even be added to the biome spawn lists, this is good if you want to stop a mob from spawning but don't want it to be completely disabled, you could also set the Biome Types and/or Dimensions to NONE.
  • Greatly reduced the Y-Axis clamp on the Concapede Segments, this should stop them from sinking into the ground all the time, they may still go through walls now and again, but it should be rare and not for long.

Concapedes! Major Bug Hotfix! - Version 1.4.7b for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/03/2014 7:29:27 am3/03/14

  • Fixed a crash when loading the mod server side (fixed on both Forge Servers and MCPC+ Servers).
  • Fixed a crash when using a leash on any mob. 
  • Greatly improved the Concapede movement, they should bend nicely now and not look so rigid, they will also not glitch through the ground as much now too.

Concapedes! - Version 1.4.7 for Minecraft 1.6.4 : 03/02/2014 7:05:10 pm3/02/14

  • New Farmable Mob Added: The Concapede! 
  • New Food Added: Concapede Meat and Tropical Curry, get bouncy! 
  • Reduced Maka width and height. 
  • Adjusted the default spawn settings, delete your config file if you want these changes. 
  • A few tiny changes here and there, tidied the base code up a little bit and expanded a few features for the Concapede and future mobs to use!

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but it seems that pretty much every hostile mob gives me immediate blindness when I look at them... Was this intended? Is there a missing overlay texture or am I missing something to equip?

I don't know if you've intended it to be so, but it seems that Lycanite's Mobs is NOT honoring Dr. Zhark's Custom Mob Spawner configuration as the CMS configuration is set to false for epions, afrits, and some other mobs in the overworld, but they are still spawning.

Is this intended?

Sorry for the late response,

Lycanites Mobs uses several custom spawners which wont be affected by other mods but are highly configurable.
Custom Mob Spawner is know to breaking the spawning of other mods so you might have problems with mobs that use the vanilla spawner.

We have been playing with this mod for a few weeks now and suddenly our lycanite mounts lost their "Soanso's Shade" text and became just "Shade" and we also lost the ability to move while riding them. This change happened suddenly after a normal server restart and I can't figure out how to fix it. We tried releasing and re-summoning new mounts and it remains 'Shade' and we are unable to move while on it despite having a saddle. Any ideas on how we can fix it?

We are using version.
I love the monsters (especially the doom ones!) but wow is this mod an fps slayer. Without Lycanites I get 35-55 fps on my modded 1.7.10 world depending on biome, with it I get 20 max and sometimes as low as 5. Had to uninstall it :( But I did already have like 90 mods plus shaders/texture packs so maybe it's not this bad otherwise.
is it ok if i do a youtube mod review of your mod?

I feel like the meshes are bit too... smooth? I do like them, though I prefer a much blockier feel to mix in the Minecrafts style. Like, Mo'Creatures animal meshes are blocky, all of them and it fits in perfectly with minecrafts style.

Yeah I decided to go against the grain with the meshes rather than staying with blocks, I can see how it isn't for a lot of people. My mod does support resource pack models I believe so in the future I might look at adding blockier alternatives.

ok, so heres the deal, a friend of mine wants a minecraft mod for the original ben 10 omnitrix, but i cant code, i can make the items you need, say for example, the omnicore item you need to make the watch

surround a diamond with 4 lime dye to make the omncore

crafting the omnitrix itself:
top row: iron ingot, obsidian, iron ingot
middle row: Obsidian, Omnicore, obsidian
Bottom row: Iron ingot, button, inron ingot

now, i have a guy for making most of the humanoid alien skins, like upgrade and heatblast, but i need someone to program these exact things:

hold the watch in your inventory, right click and a screen pops up, hit the arrows to select between the aliens then clock on the icon that shows said alien

5 minute limit for alien time

Aliens and powers
Heatblast - Right click to shoot fireballs, can glide for 5 seconds by hitting jump twice
Wildmutt - Sixth sense of danger, faster running
Diamond head, can project diamond shards at enemies, diamond shard can not be used to cheat the game
XLR8 - Triple sprint
Upgrade - Can shoot green laser by right click, point at dispenser and right click to control Dispensers by hand
Ripjaws - better attacking underwater, swimming, cannot live on land for too long
Fourarms - can pick up stone with hands by punching it, hold stone in hand as fourarms to throw it by right clicking
Ghostfreak - Noclip (when shift is held down), scares mobs to death after 2 punches
StinkFly - Flying, right click to shoot slimeballs that stop mobs in there tracks
GreyMatter - 1 block high, hit e as grey matter to be able to craft 3x3 without crafting table

sounds cool, dont it? well its gonna be harder cuz you need certain things to make crystals that implement the alien into the watch

how that works
make a crystal, right clock with watch in hand, you will still have acess to your hotkey inventory, take a crystal out of that and put it in slot to left of alien selection GUI

1.9 builds are looking pretty stable now, there are still a few mobs missing but I'm past the halfway point now!
The mod is not smooth with forge. For example my forge normally runs on 40 fps no mods (also with the 30+ mods I use too) and and 0-3 fps with it installed.
This is crazy!!! I like the aspect off this mod with the boss and waves.

Lycanites Mobs is well on track to 1.9, I hope to have beta builds out later this week!
This is an awesome mod.I've wanted a more challenging minecraft experience for awhile now so this is 100% satisfying.If you need any help improving it,or some ideas let me know.

I am currently playing this mod with Zelda sword skills,and bibliocraft,and so far,I am in the ultimate adventure scenario.Thx alot for making this mod.And for your obvious dedication to making it stable and functional :)

Fantastic Mod! Been using it a while now, but I haven't figured out what the 'Lunar Grue' is. I assume it's a boss like creature as it darkens the enviroment and a purple [I assume] health bar appears at the top of the screen. But I can't find the creature, and when I walk away from the area it does not disappear. It was fun hunting it at first, but now it's just annoying. Can anyone explain to me what this thing is and how to dispatch of it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the bugger. Took him down with my Venom Axeblade! Fun!!

Awesomes, they can be tricky to beat!
You can turn off the boss bars for rare mobs via the lycanitesmobs-general.cfg config file or by deleting all your Lycanites Mobs config files for fresh ones with the new default settings to generate.

Also, Lycanite, if you have a minion out with items inside, and you die, it causes a duplication glitch where your minion spawns beside you, but your previous one doesn't despawn.

Awesome mod!! I used the soulstone on my pets... but.... I can't get to the pet menu so I can't get them. How do i get to the management menu gui? I did it once, but that was with the summoning staff, I can't figure it out again.

Sorry for the realllly late responce! You can get to it by clicking on the Lycanites Mobs tab in the inventory or you can set a keybind for it via the controls menu.

To start and event: /lm mobevent start eventname
For a list of event names: /lm mobevent list
To stop an event: /lm mobevent stop
Been searching for various info but so far getting very few hits that aren't a year old. But as far as issues with buckets of pure lava being put into various tanks (mariculture tanks for example), will there be fixes for this? As of now it crashes the chunk, requiring world edit or the like to replace the tank item.

It's gonna be a while yet, but eventually this mod will be updated, it might jump to 1.9.
Hey, I've got two questions.
I'm using this in a hardmode server-based modpack, but we've run into a couple of issues.

Firstly; is there any way to prevent mobs spawning in certain areas? Everything is fine most of the time, but during mob events we're getting mobs spawn in the newbie tutorial area. The newbies are invincible, but we've got a few NPCs in there that the mobs are targetting - plus it's not really very good having big mobs wandering around trying to kill you even if they can't.

Second; Spriggans. Do you have any recommendation on how someone without projectiles can kill them? Again with the newbies, they start breaking grass to get seeds for their first food, a Spriggan jumps out and every time they damage it, it just flies out of range and steals their health, making them effectively impossible to kill. Any tactics they can use to get them? (Bear in mind it's hard mode, and they may well not have resources for a bow or fishing rod). Failing that, is it possible to stop them spawning out of broken grass?

Hey, sorry for the late reply, I don;t chcek these comments too often!
You can stop mobs from spawning in certain biomes but you may need another mod in order to create no-mob zones.
There are many config options that you can change including an option in lycanitesmobs-general.cfg to stop mobs from targetting villagers.
Spriggans may seem tough but they are incredibly vulnerable to axes, even a wooden axe can take them down very quickly, though you may need to take cover to lure them down if they're too high up. You can also stop Spriggans from spawning out of crops by changing their spawn type from CROP to MONSTER in forestmobs-spawning.cfg if needed though.

Lol yup! Jousts are pretty much Scrabs and Lurkers are pretty much Paramites but they're not 100% the same. Joust farming can be a lot of fun but look out for the alphas!

This is exactly the mod I've been looking for! Been looking for mobs for a lovecraftian adventure map. Only Cthulhu is missing haha. But your kraken boss plan sounds great! 
Questions: 1) may I use these mobs in an adventure map if I credit you?
2) most importantly, is it possible to use command blocks to create spawners for your mobs? I tried using /setblock ~ ~1 ~ minecraft:mob_spawner 0 replace {EntityId:Beholder} but it just creates a flaming spawner with no mobs.

Feel free to use this mod in your map! You can indeed use these mobs via commands, though the entity IDs start with the submod, for example mountainsmobs.beholder or swampmobs.lurker. Check out the mod website creature page, each creature view has the entity ID on it for you: lycanitesmobs.com/creature
