UPDATED (11/24/16): Added 1.11 Blocks, Added Options to Invert Camera Controls, Fixed Bugs.

Minecraft Building Planner is a planning tool that allows you to design and plan out your buildings layer-by-layer, then view it in 3D!

Noteable Features
- Using a dual-view system, the program lets you plan out your buildings and view them in 3D at the same time.
- You can import your own textures and models for the program to use, letting you see your buildings exactly as they would be in-game!
- Import .schematic files for a quick building solution.
- View the materials list to get an exact block count for your project!

Check out the website: www.minecraftbuildingplanner.com

Important Notes:
- Only for Windows right now. Sorry Mac and Linux!
- The program will attempt to connect to the website to check for the most recent version number, to let you know if there is an update. No information is ever sent, only received, and this can be turned off in the program settings.

If there's anything you like or dislike about the program, you can message me here, email me at [email protected], or anonymously use the contact form on the website.

What happened to the pixel art creation option?
Any idea when the 1.12 blocks will be added? The blocks I use for pixel arts are wool and both the concrete blocks :p
evry time I create a new stucture, it just crashes

I created an account just to post a comment! This tool is kick-butt. Structure Planner was pretty good, but it stopped working well for me a long time ago. The only "missing" is the export to a schematic, but you've heard the requests before. Even without that extra convenience, this is really a fantastic tool. Hours of fun with my kids on our home server in the weeks and months to come. I can tell! The "shopping list" is the kind of extra detail that makes your project really shine. Nice job!

Thanks!

Make sure you're using Windows 7 or newer, and using a newer theme, none of that classic stuff. Microsoft stopped supporting some of the controls (in this case the 3D view's trackbar) in the older OSs and themes, and unfortunately left us with no alternative. I'll throw in some more checking to try and prevent the crash, but you'll be losing the functionality the track bar provides to the program if you continue to use the older stuff.

1. Double-click it to run the installer. (Windows Only)
2. So the program can be installed in its entirety without pieces missing, without the concerns/headaches of releasing source code.

Hi! I'm fairly new with planning buildings in minecraft, and this programs looks great, so this question may sound silly.. is there a way to generate circular or round shapes with this program like in the old minecraft structure planner? I just know if I design it myself it will never be perfectly circular or symmetrical. Thanks!

No that feature isn't quite ready to go yet. However in the meantime, I cannot recommend enough www.plotz.co.uk for sphere generation. They have both 2D and 3D views and I use it all the time.
So here's my question / request...is there a way to import a world into the planner, so I can see what was used to build it? I love recreating some of the projects I see in my own survival world. It would be tremendously helpful if I were able to open a world in the planner. Thanks!

This program is for smaller structures, which you can import as a .schematic file. However very large projects are not as feasible, as the program becomes slow and unresponsive in larger builds, and importing an entire world would be extremely chaotic. There are better tools for viewing world data such as WorldEdit; this program won't be able to handle what you're trying to do.
Now that Structure Planner has essentially died, this may become the go-to structure building application for me. Only nitpick is it needs a way to get the amount of materials needed, for those building in survival mode.

Which is actually the whole reason I wrote this in the first place! It can be accessed through the materials list button on the top bar. Check out the help menu for a guide to what all the buttons do.
Really? Cool! I've never used this before, so yeah, I'm gonna need to go through a crash course on the controls.

Also, may I suggest adding compatibility with mods? So that I can add blocks from other mods to this. It would be nice to be able to accurately tell how much of each material I'm going to need. Since AvP mod's blocks require cobble, smoothstone, and bricks, I just decided to use blocks representing the materials needed to represent each block that I'd need. Then I'd just multiply the materials, and have exactly how much I needed.

Finally, just need an option to invert the right-click movement.

Inverting the right click is easily doable, I'll add it as an option in the next update. Custom blocks will take a bit longer, but is something I do want to add eventually. I haven't ever worked with custom blocks, even in game, so I'll have to do some research on it first ;)

This has been suggested before, and while I may include it in the future, there are other tools better suited for that sort of thing, including just building in creative mode.

It is not used "on" anything, it is a program that does not require or use any minecraft installation. Some people like to build 'blueprint style' and prefer to plan builds in that way. It's not for everyone, but so far people seem to have found a use for it.
does it work on 1.10.2 thanks

It works regardless of your minecraft version. Has zero interaction with the game.
This is super helpful. I've made atleast five builds with it so far and I downloaded it just a few minutes ago. It's going great, but there is one problem. The doors. It confused me when I tried making a door... If you could make it where when you set a door down, the block on the top layer of the door would also turn into a part of the door, that'd be awesome. I suggest this to many people who like to build!

Oh wow, that's definately a bug (it used to do that no problem). I'll figure it out asap, sorry!
I think your program is great so far. Still looking into all the tools, but so far i am pleased.... with one exception. the camera movements are horrible. It would be a bit nicer to have a free floating camera angle with a stationary platform that the design is on. This way we can look into and all around using simple WASD controls and mouse for looking around.

Thank you for your thoughts. I can certainly look into adding other camera options. The program started out as something for myself (I never thought others would be interested in using it) so the camera movement reflects my own personal preference.
That would be fantastic. As i used your program i noticed a few other things, that are not required but are definitely some ease of life options that would make the program easier to use. Hotkeys on adding and deleting rows, columns and layers would be nice rather than right clicking every time. like pressing Shift+R adds a row, Ctrl+R deletes it.

Also with the painting features, a way to drag and place squares/rectangles of varying sizes. This could even be taken farther with Shift+Click and drag RMB could allow a solid while Ctrl+click and drag RMB could paint an outline.

And one that is purely personal preference, but a way to take a selected portion on a layer and mirror if on the other side of that layer.
I agree wholeheartedly with this. Definitely include this to make it much easier to make walls and floors, for easy creation of a house.
Does anyone know if this contains any viruses? Sorry, I don't always trust installer files.

Right-click + dragging your mouse moves the screen around, and the help menu has tutorials on everything, including this. If you are having trouble accessing this, let me know, that would be a bug.
this is a great piece of software. though one small thing I'd like to recommend is to (if in any way possible) is to add a positive and negative zoom switch/slider (right click dragging while working on a larger build will end up being a bit of a hindrance time wise and mistake wise), that is unless one is already implemented and I haven't spotted it yet? Many thanks.

Scroll wheel on your mouse, or Z/X on your keyboard :)

There's also buttons on the top bar to collapse the 3D view so you have more room
Just a quick question regarding this 'planner': is it a mod or an an entirely individual piece of software that does not require Minecraft on PC to use?

Software. I agree it's a bit misleading being in the "Mods" section, but it is where I was told to put it when I asked site staff. It does not require any version of minecraft to be installed in order to run.
Thanks a bunch, downloading it right now. I've got a large project that hasn't really gotten off the ground due to it's large scale and my lacking skills, hopefully this will be the answer to all my prayers

They don't do it automatically, but if you ctrl-click the stairs it should change their look to match the different styles they can end up in when you face them into each other. (If that's not what you mean than I'll need you to elaborate.)

No, there is no export feature at this time, and this program has zero interaction with the game files. You don't even need Minecraft installed to run it. This program is for pre-planning survival builds and getting a list of all blocks in a design.
Can you export your creations as a schematic?

Not right now. It may be something I add in later versions, but would also defeat the purpose of minecraft a bit, since the same tools that would allow you to use it in game would also allow you to just copy it from creative mode.

The door tool is buggy on my machine. Sometimes it let's me place a door, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it places in an open area on level 1 with nothing around it. I'm trying to place a door in a 1x3 wall, where the middle blocks are removed. So...
C = cobblestone
D = Door
G = ground (level 0 I guess)

Hi thanks for this tool !
I used minecraft structure planner but it only work with old texture from minecraft 1.2.
But now I have a problem on your tool :/ when I import my schematic file, Minecraft building planner crash. I think it because my building is very very huge (l=380 ; L=80 ; h=184).
Maybe you have a solution (and I ask your help :D) or it's only a bug and now it reported :)
Thanks again
