Just like the quote from the show, the Vale of Shadows mod does exactly that. No, it doesn't add a new dimension.
How does it work then?
If you've seen Stranger Things, then you probably have some idea of what this mod contains. For those who haven't, The Vale of Shadows mod is a survival horror experience. As telling you about what it has to offer would spoil the experience, I won't be giving away much details.
Simply start/continue a previous survival world, start surviving as usual, and then proceed to get the daylights scared out of you. And stay alive, if possible.

/gamerule actively_hunt
False by default, if on the experience will be based completely around surviving the monster, and it will appear very frequently. When off, it's not very frequent
/gamerule allow_other_mobs
True by default, if off other hostile mobs will despawn so they don't detract from the horror experience

-The monster now gets pushed out of walls
-Increased flicker range
-Fixed torches being replaced with incorrect metadata id, leaving floating torches
-Fixed gate blocks not always matching up properly

Usually if it's nighttime and you are in survival then things will start to happen. (Nothing will happen in a flatworld though I think. It's best to be in a place that has at least 2 block tall areas, such as a more mountainous place, a forest, or a cave.)
But maybe there should have been eggs.
Anyways it's recommended to play this with my WW2 Mod Call to Battle. Having both mods installed adds a few extra guns that are seen in the first season of the show.
