This data pack swaps out any Mending enchantments on books and items the player picks up with Unbreaking 3.

I recommend you use this data pack alongside my Anvil Mending data pack so you can always repair your enchanted items, without any increased cost in experience, using an anvil and the relevant repair material item.

More information about data packs and how to use them can be found on the official Minecraft Wiki.

Looking into data merge and stuff like

data modify entity @a[select] SelectedItem.tag.Enchantments[{id:"minecraft:smite"}] set value {lvl:4s,id:"minecraft:smite"} can change the smite enchantment of any held item by the player to smite 4, it will return an error, but it will actually work, I used this and selected only specific players holding "bad" enchantments via the nbt= selector in the @a[] bit.

Not that I support removing mending as it was added for a reason, but wanted to share a tip that may help.

Thank you very much for the tip!

I understand that Mending is desirable to a lot of people, but I think the result of its inclusion is a lot of time spent at XP farms, and I'd personally rather be spending my time in the game doing something active, but know the presence of the enchantment is a temptation for me.
