Prepare yourself for THE ultimate Zelda mod for Minecraft! Including nearly every Zelda item, fully functional just like in the games, sword skills such as Link's Spin Attack, mobs, dungeons, several quests, and more. If you ever enjoyed a Zelda game, then you will certainly love this mod.

If you just want to spice up vanilla combat without all the extra items, mobs, and dungeons, check out the skills-only standalone module Dynamic Sword Skills!

MOD INFORMATION
This section has moved! All item, block, mob, and skill descriptions, along with everything else (configuration settings, secrets, etc.) have been bundled into a much more presentable and, most importantly, not space-limited PDF.

Get the Official ZSS Manual now! The manual will be updated regularly and stamped with a new date - be sure to check the change log to see if anything has changed in the manual.

RECOMMENDED MODS
The following are mods that provide features I consider complementary and should enhance your experience.
Please keep in mind that I am not responsible for any content in these mods and that I cannot guarantee compatibility.
If you experience issues, try using the latest version or rolling back to a previous version depending on your situation.

Antique Atlas by Hunternif - Keep track of boss dungeons on an old-school rpg map!
Battlegear2 by GotoLink, NerdBoy, et al. - Dual-wielding, shields, awesome.
NOTE: BG2 v1.0.10.0 adds a config option to re-enable item blocking - you MUST enable this for many ZSS items to function correctly if you play with BG2 installed.
Custom Chest Loot by FatherToast - Customize loot in secret room and boss chests, jar drops, etc.
Version Checker by Dynious - Check for the latest ZSS version right from the main menu of Minecraft!
ZSS Official Addon by TheRedMajora - Adds everything from Zelda that didn't make it into the main mod

F.A.Q. - Please read me before asking questions!
Q: I found a BUG!
A:
Great - first please make sure you are using the LATEST version of the mod and check the change log to see if the bug has already been fixed; if not, check if it has already been reported and report it if has not.

Q: Help, your mod crashed my game!
A: Oops! First, READ the mod description carefully, and then answer the following questions:

1. Did you install the correct version of the mod?
2. Did you install the correct version of Forge?
3. Did you install the correct versions of OTHER mods?

If you can answer YES to all three questions, then please kindly post your full crash report inside of [ spoiler ] tags, along with a detailed description of what you were doing when the game crashed. The more information you can give me, the more likely I will be able to fix your problem.

Q: Your mod crashes with Battlegear2!!!
A: No, it doesn't - you forgot to install the latest versions of both mods. Please read the download description and change log carefully.

Q: Why can't I use skills with Tinker's Construct (or other mod) weapons!
A: You can, but you may need to add them to the Weapon Registry. Please see the section on Commands in the ZSS Manual.

Q: Why aren't the villager trades working with Minecraft Comes Alive (MCA) ?
A: In order to do what they do, MCA replaces all vanilla villagers with their own class, but this means that other mods which rely on the vanilla class to do things (such as trade) have a high chance of not working. This is one of those cases.

Q: Will you add [x] sword?
A: No. The swords currently available have a nice progression from weak to strong, and I am not interested in adding another sword that has basically the same stats as one that already exists just for the sake of variety. The Official ZSS Addon, however, adds nearly all of the swords not included in the main mod.

Q: How do I upgrade the Hero's Bow?
A: There are hints in the game - check out the achievements leading up to the upgrade achievement. If you can't figure it out from that, read the Official Manual.

Q: Can you please add { whatever } ?
A:
a. Is {whatever} in a Zelda game? I have already considered it.
b. Is {whatever} NOT in a Zelda game? Then no, I won't add it.

If you answered 'a' and still want to ask, either provide details about HOW and WHY it should be implemented, otherwise I will ignore you.

Q: The transformation masks (e.g. Deku Mask) are supposed to change the player model!!!
A: I know, but it is much more difficult than one would think, not to mention it would likely conflict with every other mod that wants to do something with the player model. At best, I may be able to manage a skin change, but it's not a high priority for me.

Q: Will you ever add more elaborate dungeons?
A: No. I encourage people to use the mod in Adventure Maps, however, where it is quite feasible to replicate not only the form of Zelda dungeons, but also to add the many intricate puzzles and quests that should accompany each dungeon.

Q: But you can just use schematics to add dungeons, will you do that?
A: No. Unless playing an Adventure Map, I prefer the dungeons to be slightly randomized to better fit the randomness of the Minecraft world; schematics cannot be randomized when added without converting them to Java, which can add tens of thousands of lines of code that I would rather not deal with, plus I just do not like working with schematics in general.

Q: What about adding dimensions?
A: Sorry, I do not have any plans at this time to add new dimensions.

Q: BOSSES!!! When will you be adding proper Zelda bosses?!?!?!
A: I'm not sure, but if I had a proper boss model available, it might give me some incentive to start working on one sooner rather than later.

Q: Your textures suck, can you make better ones?
A: Sorry, I'm not an artist. If you can do better, please submit your textures via private message and I will consider replacing the current texture with yours, but only if yours are good ;P

Q: My bombs are not blowing up the secret rooms, what is going on?!?!
A: Congratulations, you have found a secret room that requires a special item to enter! Excavate around the secret room until you find either a pair of Barrier Blocks or some kind of Peg, then use the appropriate item to open it up so you can get that treasure chest!

Q: My question was not answered here, now what?
A: Please download and read the Official ZSS Manual before asking questions about content in the mod.

Oh okay, with the lack of updates in such a long time I was starting to wonder. Keep up the good work coolAlias, as this is my favorite TLoZ mod. Not using any of that Legends of Craft crap.

Sorry about the sad end of Legends Of Craft, mainly it was too much work and with Pixelmon being shutdown, they have deciced to turn it into a original fantasy rpg mod...

Anyways, besides that, zelda sword skills is a great mod! I hope it beomes the best zelda mod out there!

(as long as nintendo doesn't discover it or at least changes their copyright to be less over the top)

Hi!
In what timeframe do you plan to update this mod to 1.9?
Not to be rude, just that it’s been a long time since the last update.
In the post below, Alias has stated that he is busy with things in life, and hasn't had anytime to work on the mod. I'm sure he would have updated if he had a chance. But, everyone has their own things in life to deal with, so I recommend being patient; And respectful to his reasons. ;D

To anyone downloading from Ad.fly - obviously, disable as much JavaScript as you can (use uMatrix or a similar extension on FireFox) and don't click anything other than Continue to get the download.

Basic internet safety.

Going forward, I hope to get rid of Ad.fly links altogether, but they'll be here for a while longer.
is it just me or does adfly pop up every time i try to press download in here?
(here is what hapens:i click download in planet minecraft but then it brings me to a website that i think is where i download the mod from but i guess i will never know beacuse adfly pops up and when i click skip ad it rederects me to yet another adfly website and if i close that and go back to the first website it was rederected and before you ask yes i can't go back a page beacuse you guessed it adfly pops back up again)

I was playing the 1.8.0 version of this mod, (since Backpacks for the current version is broken, and I'd rather not play this without them) and I found a bug; no secret rooms or boss dungeons generated in the Nether. I checked the config, everything was as it should be--it just wasn't working for some reason. Not sure if anyone else gets this or if i'm just unlucky lol

The hookshot and whip were broken also. I could fire/swing them, but the projectile would disappear immediately, as if their ranges had been set to 0 in the config, but they hadn't.

I know this is for an outdated version and probably doesn't matter much, but I figured I should mention something anyway

P.S. This is my all-time favorite mod to play, good job and keep it up man : )

Nether gen bug has been fixed for 1.8.9.

Not sure about the other bugs, but they all work in 1.8.9.

Thanks for the report! The 1.8.9 version of ZSS is in the process of getting lots more bug fixes prior to work on 1.9.4 and beyond.

It is great for myself, but if I ever made a Mod Pack out of it. BTW I am not sure why I was playing an older version of the 1.7.10 but II finally updated it to the right version. It really did need the Zelda Quest that gives the Ocarina of Time. Great mod.
Also the bottled fairy should be a ball of light that moves around the bottle not just a full glow. It would looks so awesome
I just finished a lets play with this mod for Zelda Month awesome mod I can not stop playing

Hey CoolAlias.

Do you think it'd be a good idea to assign different keys for the
Ocarina and the combat controls? Like I usually assign my Z-Target to
Mouse Button 3 and Switch Target, and Parry, to the thumb buttons.

However, when I assign these, I cannot play the ocarina without
reassigning the parry key back to its original place. Can you find a way
to remedy this because I find the mouse as a convienient way to parry,
switch targets and z-target.

Holy crap, this is still alive? And still being actively developed? When can we expect to see some screenshots or videos of any new content and how it works with the Dual Wielding? Speaking of which, can you make it so that should you be holding a weapon in your offhand you can attack with it?

I wouldn't say it's being "actively" developed, but it is getting worked on here and there.

When we get there, ZSS weapons and shields will work the same way as 1.9.4+ weapons and shields, so if you can attack with a sword in the offhand in vanilla, you'll be able to in ZSS.

ooh. another idea for the mod.
in MM you get different instruments depending on mask.
what if... what if we can get these instruments in the mod? they'd play like the ocarina, but sound differently.
ideas for instruments
songbook (has a singing voice)
shieks harp
deku bagpipes
goron drums
zora guitar
skull kids flute (which can also be a weapon)
just some ideas i just thought of.

one thing i'd like to see changed....
the sword beam. it's a ranged attack, isn't it?
I kinda would like to have a key to press to fire the sword beam WITHOUT having to lock onto things.
maybe also hold the same button to do a spin attack without having to lock on?

edit and one more thing.
I... kind of also would like to see the pegasus boots and zora flippers merge into one item.
an item where you would be able to swim faster in water and run faster on land.
it could be called something like "the zorasus boots" or "the pegasus boots (with flippers)"
it gets kind of annoying having to switch them, when in the games they stacked together.

I used MM as my frame of reference; to quote the wiki: n Majora's Mask, when Link is wearing the Fierce Deity's Mask, he will be able to shoot out a blue, crescent-shaped beam from his sword. However, this ability can only be used when Z-Targeting, and it consumes Magic Power.

As for combining items, they weren't ever combined in the Zelda games, but since many of the older games didn't have any sort of swappable inventory slots they may have allowed both to affect you at once with the assumption that you'd switch between them as needed. In Minecraft, the player has to manage their own inventory.

the beam would make better sense for a ranged attack though. which is kind of why i think we could be able to fire it without z-targeting to hit far off enemies.
and it wouldn't be just any sword that can do it, either.
only the master sword and its varients, the 8-bit swords (in the addon right now but you did say they would be in the mod proper) and the fierce deity sword should do this.

A bit - DSS was already practically updated to 1.9.4 when my computer went down last year, so I just finished that off and it was pretty much a direct port from that to 1.10.2.

ZSS, unfortunately, is a much more complicated beast and still has some things I need to finish before even starting on 1.9.4.
I have a question! Is this mod compatible with other mods that effect health or the health bar? Like for example, that one mod that adds heart crystal shards that allow you to increase health or the rpg hub mod? I'm kinda wanting to use this mod with the sprout modpack!

I guess since we're all reintroducing ourselves, I should mention that I came too.

Glad to see you! Looks like I can still log in to CurseForge as well, at least for now, so I'll keep that updated as long as it remains available to me.
I still can't believe they went through with that though.

They already did it once before with Curse / CurseForge. Back then, I just bit the bullet because they were somewhat related and it is a decent platform for mod distribution, but Twitch has literally nothing that I want.

In the end they won't care about a few people leaving because enough will still merge or create accounts that their bottom line won't be negatively impacted. It's a bummer, though, because MCF was a great place for a long time.
I already had a twitch account so I just merged mine. But they still shouldn't have made that merge a requirement.
Since this mod is gonna be coming to1.10.2 and higher then I'm guessing the sheilds will be useable in the offhand just like the vanilla sheilds?

That is correct. I'm surprised how many people have expressed concern about this, since offhand wielding is a vanilla feature I don't see why anyone would think I would go to the effort of explicitly preventing it from working. Lol.
Hello, maybe you remember me from the MinecraftForums page (probably not, I'm the maker of Metaknights Adventure Pack.) Thank you for not abandoning the mod after the twitch thing happened!

After this transition of platforms, I'm now linking to this page instead of the thread on MinecraftForums in the mod credits of the modpack.

I haven't seen you post in a while, but I most definitely recall you being very active a year or two ago. Welcome!

I'm currently making a adventure map with this mod, however when I use the summon command to spawn a darknut it spawns without the armor. Is there anyway to summon one with the armor and possibly have it drop a key?

Hm... I'll have to look at how the command works, but it should be calling all the same methods that a spawn egg does. For now, it may be easier to create and dispense a spawn egg for the darknut, rather than the darknut directly.

Maybe, but I've fallen quite far behind the "Play Catch-Up with Mojang" game so adding any new content will have to wait for quite some time.

Plus I haven't even played BotW yet, so... :P
