    PlanetMinecraft.com launched on November 8th, 2010. Our online creative community grew with the explosive popularity of Minecraft. The iconic sandbox game has captured and expanded the imaginations of millions of people around the world for over 10 years! The timeline below attempts to document the major milestones of our community website.

    You are on this historic journey through time whether this is your day one or you've been here for years.

    Together the community has shared a decade of Minecraft creativity, updates, trends and social interactions with many more to come. We've seen generations of members exploring their artistic talents, inspiring creativity in all forms, motivating each other and downloading and customizing entire worlds.

    There are countless stories and experiences from our interactions and time together.

    This feature provides a clean way to log updates for larger in progress submissions. It helps keep the main description clean while allowing us to make minor edits without bumping our submission onto the homepage. In the future, the site will display a site wide activity feed using the update logs and other information. source

    Our First Moderators
    As the community expanded moderators became a necessity. The very first moderators were Zaralith, Zeranny and kacboy! On this day, they become forum moderators. It wasn't until later that site moderation tools were developed! Apparently, Cyprezz never slept.

    Community Update
    At this point in time, Planet Minecraft launched 4 months ago. We've gone from an idea to 3,240 members and 2,734 Minecraft submissions in 4 months.

    As the word spreads our creativity is getting more exposure, feedback and downloads. Today, 14,000+ people visit and view over 130,000 pages on Planet Minecraft each day. Thing is, we continue to pick up speed. We're growing at about 80-100 members a day now.

    Site Moderation Tools
    Site wide moderation tools are launched allowing moderators to help manage posted Minecraft content. Prior to this moderation was limited to the forums. Cyprezz was "handling" the site moderation.

    At this time the forum system is phpbb while the rest of the website is custom coded. This created a hybrid that "worked" for many years before we ultimately replaced the forums with our own internal system.

    Member Levels, XP, Classes and Rankings
    We now earn experience points for our submissions. Experience translates into levels and member ranks.



    We also have classes. At level 1, we have 3 choices (Miner, Crafter, Explorer). I've randomly set everyone to one of the three. As you level, you unlock more classes. If you're at level 2, you've already unlocked the first set.

    We had SigCards or Signature cards. These little images were generated with our basic stats for the purpose of displaying it in our forums as well as others to promote your profile page.

    Here is Cyprezz's sigcard locked in time with stats from when sigcards were retired. The blank spot was for a member's avatar.

    First Project Contest

    We launched our first project contest, Minecraft Island Resorts! It received 585 entries and the winning entry went on to be the VR ride at Minecon in our booth!

    Launched a TV Guide for PMC TV. We still have yet to fully realize the potential of this section. Once we hand control over to the community, it will finally have a chance to grow.

    Growing pains and gains!
    At this point, PMC is exploding with the popularity of Minecraft. Our servers are struggling to handle the traffic and our moderation team is overwhelmed with handling the influx of over 1 million members and their content.

    PMC Chat 3.1
    Chat was updated to version 3.1, which utilizes new technology and written entirely from scratch. It's more responsive, much faster and easier to use.

    Minecon 2013 Exhibitor
    PlanetMinecraft was an exhibitor at Minecon 2013. Our booth featured a VR Roller Coaster ride with maps from our contest, a non-stop livestream from popular Twitch & YouTube Minecrafts for Charity, real life popular reel, custom PMC swag giveaways and more. It was an amazing and crazy experience where we met a few thousand Minecraft fans and each other.

    New Rules System
    We overhaul our rules system giving it an interactive table of contents and the ability to wiki style edit them internally.

    In addition to the rules being more manageable, sections of the rules were pulled into context on the website. This put the most relevant rules where they needed to be seen.

    Paril creates a dynamic website header which has evolved to include rotating planets, day/night cycle, stars & constellations, weather effects, special seasonal effects and more!

    Greenlight System
    We launch a Greenlight system to review Minecraft mods and texture packs posted by level 1 members to help prevent stolen, malicious and inappropriate content. Our moderators have helped maintain content quality standards and the Greenlight system is only one of many methods of doing so.

    The oldest mod that is still live and passed the Greenlight system.

    Our member profile system is completely overhauled. This introduced widgets giving members greater freedom to customize their profiles and present their content. It launched with 18 different widgets types including an all new wall post section, social media links, personalized home feeds and more!

    We launch the Planet Minecraft Time Machine allowing us to browse years worth of creative Minecraft content by month, year and subject. A new filter is introduced into general content listings. Our creativity has evolved over the years with practice and various updates to the game itself.

    On this day we launched our own forum system and member account systems. This shed our use of phpbb forums for both purposes. The new forums unified the site UI along with introducing emeralds, feeds, threaded replies and more.

    First Official Community Event

    We host our first non-competitive community event allowing up to 5 entries of various subjects from each participant to collectively create content around a common theme. Considering our first official contest was Halloween themed, it seemed like a fitting first event. The event received 48 maps, 558 skins and 16 blogs.

    Batty the first PMC Pet


    Batty was a random idea that spawned from creating the contest banner for the Halloween event. Cyprezz wanted to click the hanging bat and ran with the concept. While Batty is the simplest of the PMC pets with only one "emote", they inspired the creation of every pet after them. New pets typically arrive with seasonal events.

    Modernized Website Design
    We launch the first of several iterations of modernizing the website layout and design. Because of the many sections, systems and features of the community, design updates are rolled out in phases. On this day, the update included revamping the header, xp bar, submission listings and more.

    The PMC Weekly


    The weekly round up of community events and highlighted content and members is "officially" established. Like most ideas, they start small and grow over time. Here is when they were officially titled "Wall Post Weekly".

    The PMC Weekly Wall Post grew in size and coverage and moved to the forums to become the "The PMC Weekly" . You can read all of our latest weeklys in our news section.

    The homepage was reorganized and all new tabs have appeared.

    Main navigation revamp!
    We outgrow our main navigation requiring an overhaul to the design on desktop and mobile. The footer is also redesigned to present more information in a more organized format.

    Revamped content listings and the notification wars!
    We launch a new content listing format introducing the ability to diamond, favorite and collect content from the listing itself.

    This inadvertently caused a major notification war among members raining diamonds and favorites on each other. Battle waged over the weekend before Cyprezz could add additional features to mitigate it. Good times! Notif spam is still a thing but not like that first weekend!

    Community Pixel Project


    An experimental community project that took off and quickly became hard to maintain. It has over 100 custom dividers that the community can use on their profiles and descriptions. It is also proof that an official section for managing pixel art would do well on PMC.... someday!?

    Unified content reply system
    All content replies were moved into a unified reply system and the same one we use on forum threads. This allowed reply notifications, emeralds, XP and more.

    Core update
    While this event wasn't public, it's an internal milestone that we can't leave off the timeline. The core update was a major refactor in our code base that transformed the way we work on a daily basis. Perhaps more importantly it opened up a doorway to another world that has yet to be discovered... time will tell.

    PMCSkin3D : Mob Skin Update


    You can now design and publish mob skins on Planet Minecraft! We support nearly all of the mobs except for a small pawful. Paril even squeezed in the newest BEE mob last minute! A whole new world is opening up for our talented skinning community. source

    HD Player Skins
    With Minecraft Bedrock Edition supporting HD skins, we decided to support the publication of them on PMC! HD Skins are 2x the resolution of standard definition skins allowing a much greater level of detail to be packed into each one.
