“...the most beautifully proportioned locomotive ever built.”
-Walt Disney
-Walt Disney
Nathan Oneday's newest scale train build, the #173! There are three versions- each representing a different era/scheme of the locomotive. There is an 1873 version, which replicates what the locomotive probably looked like at the time, as no photos exist. The next is the 1883 version. This version accurately replicates what the engine looked like in the mid 1880s. Finally, there is the Lilly Belle version, which was Walt Disney's personal miniature train patterned directly after the actual #173.
This is based on the train-world-only-famous locomotive of the same name, which you can read about here. It was a rebuild of an earlier engine involved in a wreck, and served as a pattern locomotive for one of the most successful 4-4-0 designs ever pumped out by the Central Pacific Railroad. A total of 12 copies were made, all but one of which were scrapped. The only remaining locomotive of the design is the Virginia & Truckee Dayton, residing in Nevada.
Nathan approached a railroad historian in his area, who was known to have information on the locomotive beyond what was available to the public. After cooperating with the historian over the course of a couple weeks during the final stretch of the build, it was brought to a state of reasonably high historic accuracy.
THE ORIGINAL:
"This is my favorite locomotive, Central Pacific Railroad, #173! This build has been in the works on and off for about 3 months now, and I just finished it today. Though, I don't know when you're reading this, but when I'm typing this, it was finished today!"
"I wanted this to be as visually accurate as I could possibly make it, so in addition to working off the locomotive's actual blueprints, I got in contact with a railroad historian who has been researching engines of the era for decades, including this one. With his help, I've created a reasonably accurate representation of the engine."
"This is also my first released engine in my favored work scale, 25:1!"
"Cab has full interior, and each version has subtle component variations as well- a big one being the air brakes on the 1883 version."

Make sure you free up as much memory as possible on your device, though. This one is VERY big (will cause problems with device memory). Find it in Machines Category, ID934.

^ I'm not lying when I say "much smaller scale". XD This comes from a bout of train building I did a month or two ago.
