I re-created my real life house in massive scale in Minecraft.
This was made before creative mode was ever added to the game and I used no inventory editors or world edit. I worked on it in my free time for about 6 months.
The video went up in May 2011. It was featured on Kotaku, received a diamond award on the Minecraft forums and several other sites.
Which is the main reason the video and my channel blew up as big as it did, as nothing like this had ever been done before.
A month later, I set it on fire, just to see how long it took to burn. Of course I made a backup first and this was before fire was patched so it still spread indefinitely: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhyvdNeGhFM
8/19/15 - I converted the world map to the newest format for Minecraft, fixed the spawn area and set it to creative mode by default and allowed cheats so anyone downloading it can start flying around immediately.

I imagine you could just convert the world to creative mode somehow and fly around.
