A personal note from me :)

I normally don't build modern or sci-fi builds like that. When exploring the aweomse islands McMeddon created, I naturally tried to find spots to build a castle or village or other fantasy/medieval things I'm used to building. I thought about it for a while and then decided to scrap that and try something entirely new for once.

As this contest is sponsored by Nvidia and their RTX ray-tracing graphics card, I had the idea of building something that would look great with ray-tracing. Something that takes advantage of bouncing light and lighting in general. I quickly came to the conclusion that sci-fi builds with lots of artificial light would be the most interesting.

What is more sci-fi than a space ship? A space ship sounds good and all but how would I integrate it into this world? Several ideas came to my mind when flying through the world. One of those ideas was a (StarWars) Tatooine-like desert city near the vulcano that is under attack by a space ship. I was very unsure about it at that time and a city under attack seemed very daunting to me (as I'm not exactly experienced with sci-fi builds). However, when I found the jungle I immediately knew what I was going to do: Use the jungle as contrast to my sci-fi build and build an industrial mining site. The ship would be integrated as a cargo ship, as apposed to a battle ship. All of that with modern sci-fi lights and the reflections in the ocean would make a great ray-tracing experience, so I thought (can't really confirm, SEUS PTGI runs on like 5 fps...).

I tried my best at integrating some lore into the map. I built every building and structure with it's potential purpose in mind. I thought this would make the build coherent and bring it to life. I think it turned out quiet well. You can read about the buildings in the texts above.

This project was fun to build. I learned a lot and even found a new building style for myself. Thanks Nvidia and PMC for hosting this contest and props to McMeddon for creating this awesome terrain!
