Little Spirit, take the last of the water.
What will you drink?
I will drink the sun.
Can you even do that?
Can you do that, Mom?
Yes.
The water's gone. Now what are we going to do?
Fly to the savannah. Pluck thistles and bring them back. Build a nest. Find a mate. Raise a family like you wanted.
Will you be here when I get back?
Yes.
Ok.
Mom? I'm back. I brought...
Mom, why are you grey? Why won't you move?
Are you playing statue again?
Mom?
That is only the end of the story. The beginning and middle I leave to you. I hope you enjoy my entry to Planet Minecraft's Desert Detour Contest. I set out to sculpt something truly desert themed; something that captured the desolation, decay, and flickers of hope we experience while living in a near-lifeless place. But more specifically I wanted to sculpt something about moving on from death. I saw quite a few other entries that I felt captured the spirit of the desert in their own way. It's been fun seeing what my fellow builders come up with.
Thanks to everyone for making this a fun community event and thanks to PMC for so loyally hosting these past years. Thanks to BlockWorks for being the coolest group of builders I could have hoped to join. Thank you all for shaping this chapter of my life.
Thanks to s0me_m0nkey for the solid renders (also patience as my brain tied itself in knots) and to tickandtock for advice on wind, rust, the absence of sunbeams, and why it's ok to build something that isn't grand.
Lastly, sorry for any problems in the cinematic. It's my first. I hope to get shaders and some other things working for the next. But I did have fun with the long single-shot glide using PixelCam. Easily the best rollercoaster mod of all time. Err, camera. Camera mod.
