The Monte Vigneto Maggiore Abbey is the principal monastery of the benedettine monks in the city-state. It's located next to the Vecchio district's city walls, not far from the Abbazia Vecchia (https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/borgo-abbazia-vecchia/). It takes its name from the vineyard, one of the biggest and most important in the area.
The complex is divided into three parts:
- the exterior one, consisting of fields, vineyard, stables or warehouses, maintainde by the abbey's servants;
- the big courtyard, surrounded by the guests' house, dormitory, scriptorium, library and the main church entrance;
- the small courtyard, consisting of the church's lateral entrance, chapter house abbot's apartments. Only the inhabitants and Church authorities can enter that area.
The abbey is a big comlpex, built mostly of stone bricks and sandstone in a romanesque style. The church is consecrated to Santa Maria delle Grazie. This monastery is rich (but not as rich as the San Sepolcro one https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/basilica-di-san-sepolcro-and-the-dominican-convent/) and is frequently visited by many travellers form various regions. The name I've decided to give it refers to Monte Oliveto Maggiore abbey in Tuscany.
