I have started a new world and it is a fantastic one indeed! It has many natural chasms that start at the surface and run deep into the lava. I have explored an area and already found two abandoned mine shafts as well as two NPC villages! The mine shafts have plenty of mob spawners in them, but only spiders and zombies from what I can see so far. I have my starting village in a mountainous region right next to a huge chasm with a visible mine shaft at the bottom. I've built a mushroom farm in the cliff wall for convenience, as well as a 16x16 chunk for a slime farm(still in trial phase.) The house is cozy with small basement storage(nothing fancy), nearby melon farm/wheat farm is an added plus. Sugarcane is growing by the shallow pond right near by as the cacti grows just on the other sandy side of the pond. A wooded forest surrounds you with water all around past the trees. Up north is the desert with a small village, complete with a lookout tower, forge, well, wheat farm and small house. Swampland is to the west with another village in the southwest on a nice barren field. Plenty of animals spawn in on that field for delicious treats. Perfect for when the 1.9 finally comes out and I can make a barn! I have yet to explore to the east or south east or anywhere beyond the borders of the map I am creating. That is up to you to explore for now! This world is marvelous and I'm sure you will all enjoy it! I've basically given you a good start in this world so it's now yours to explore and enjoy!
