First of all, before we go in to anything, we would like to make one thing very clear. This project is not intended to offend anyone. It's a digital memorial for those who fell victims for the atrocities which took place at that time and era and also for those who survived to tell the story. It's also an attempt to pass down this historic event to the younger generations since we do believe in and I quote: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".
__________________________________________________________________________________________

We have processed, researched and cross referenced a vast amount of photographs, documents and documentaries on the given topic to be able to create an authentic version of both Auschwitz Birkenau and its surroundings. However, since much of the photographs and documents got destroyed during the final days of the war in a desperate attempt to wipe out the evidence, inaccuracies may still occur.

Project best viewed with Isabella II texture pack.

Winter version available!

Is there a way you could provide us with a map telling us which buildings were used for certain things? because they all seem the same to me

If you look at the first picture, it's placed far left.
My grandfather died in Auschwitz in May of 1943. He used to send letters every day to my Dad when he was about 6 or 7. My Dad is in his 70s now and still has some of the letters. For those of you who want to know how he died, one night, he fell over and fell out of the guard tower, breaking his neck.
My classmate's great grandfather was a holocaust survivor
I feel bad for you
so if your grandfather was in the guard towers then he was a nazi? not to be mean or anything, just curious.

Really amazing ...
Sad but ... So realist.
This place gives me creeps. My great-grandfather spent there couple months as inmate. Place where yours worst nightmares become real no matter who you are as long you aren't ethnic german.

Thank you, means a lot! :>
This is amazing, i've never seen such precision in a Minecraft map before! It actually brings a lot of unexpected life to the horror that is birkenau.
Is there any chance that you will be expanding it? I would love to see the Arbeit Macht Frei sign incorporated into the map.

I apologize for the late reply, haven't been around PM lately!

Thanks a lot!

As of right now there is no plan on expanding. We might just improve small things such as a "Arbeit macht frei" sign. But to be honest, I feel we won't do much since both me & Goopen has lost our motivation playing Minecraft. But you never know, maybe we'll get that spark back again. :>

We decided to not implement it, since we felt that a wooden sign would not look ideal.
This... wow. It is so big that all the chunks are continuingly loading. Do you mind if I use this for school and is there a birds-eye-view of the minecraft version which is closer so you can see some details? You two have done an amazing job with this. Great work.

You are of course welcome to use this for school. We have a lot of pictures but I believe you can manage to take your own pictures using chunky ;)
You have my respect, Noobalid. This is a great memorial piece to something so inhumane, so terrible... even my father, who hates it when i talk about Minecraft was floored by the quality of this project, considering he's such a WWII finatic.

I'm so happy I was able to find this under the heap of other garbage projects in the World War II catagory. It's a testament to the quality of this map that when I came across the "showers", I couldn't will myself to go inside.
I created an account for the sole purpose of commenting here. I am completely floored by this build. You did a fantastic job. Be proud of yourselves, you've done a wonderful thing here.

Thanks a lot for taking your time just to leave a comment. I will not lie, we had our moments where the project seemed a bit too big for us, but we got through it and actually finished it propertly. I am pretty proud of both me and goopen for completing this project. Since we had a history of starting bigger projects and never finishing them.

Thanks again, it really warms me up getting these kinds of comments.

The detail is good but maby alittle more stuff in some of the buildings. I noticed some were empty which I know someone could fill to their preference, but seeing the room as what it might of looked like back then would be cool. and maby adding gallows and the black wall which was used to execute prisioners. and lastly what about the infamous sign on the front gate "Arbeit macht frei' - Work will set you free.

  • November 29, 2013, 7:15 am
The reason some of the buildings are empty is 'cause there aren't much information on them. It's almost impossible to actually know for sure how it was, therefore we decided to leave it empty.

Gallows is something we could add, though I believe there was only 1 in the camp.

The black wall is already in the world.

Minecraft limits the detail of the sign on the front gate. Using an ordinary Minecraft sign would not do.

Do please let us know if you believe you've found anything more we might've missed. We really want this to be as accurate as possible.

The voice of the past echos through this map, it's a very well-made map and I am simply stunned with this map. Just one question, Could you possibly turn some buildings into what are now museums? If I recall correctly, some buildings were turned into museums. It would really help to know some background information on this and it's gruesome history. Never forget!

We have been working on a kind of "museum world", where we have signs telling you about almost everything. But it's very time consuming so it will probably not be released any time soon.

I actually remembered that this place is on my list of where I'm going this summer (going to Europe) I've had friends and family who have gone here, they went in feeling normal, after a fun day, after they went on their tour, they got very silent and when they left, none of them really spoke. It has a huge impact on people, even those who didn't experience it in their time.

Reproductions in Minecraft of real (or many fictional) places rarely have a lot of detail. The real world doesn't have the same detail as original minecraft productions so this can be excused.
