Moskvich-2141 is one of AZLK's most ambitious projects, which became a symbol of a technical breakthrough and an attempt to catch up with global automotive industry standards in the last years of the USSR. This car was the result of a large-scale modernization, which included the renewal of production lines, the introduction of robotic assembly sites and the transition to mass production principles previously unavailable to domestic factories.

The 2141 offered an unusual level of comfort at that time, a spacious interior, front-wheel drive and a modern body layout for the USSR. Despite the unfinished units and problems with engine power from the Volga Automobile Plant (VAZ), because AZLK's own engine factory was not completed before the collapse of the USSR, it embodied the desire for a new generation of Soviet cars — more thoughtful, technological and export-oriented.
