About two weeks ago my friends and I decided we needed a central location for our power production on our modded server, so I decided we needed a building worthy enough to hold it. What started out as a cool looking old power plant became an obsession; 64 downloaded reference pictures and two weeks later, it is finally complete.
Some things of note:
Battersea Power station is actually two coal fired power plants, back-to-back. Battersea A was a private endeavour built in the '30s to consolidate power production in London, while Battersea B was completed 20 years later after the power companies were consolidated under one government entity. The station ran from 1933 to 1983, altogether.
Station A was the peak of innovation at it's time, and was built to be structurally elegant, both inside and out. It was built in Art Deco style with marble floors and fluted pillars in the turbine room.
Station B was built more with function in mind, in industrial modern design.
Since this started out as a personal project I did make one major design change; Turbine hall A is copied twice, since it was the prettiest. I did not have a true floor layout to go with, so the transformer house on side A is mostly empty, while side B is holding turbine room B, out of respect for the building.
I also need to change some of the blocks used to make it vanilla safe and pleasing to the eye if using default texture:
1) All iron has been replaced with grey wool, so you can see it against the quartz floor
2) The colored blue bricks have been replaced with lapis blocks (which didn't look good in my resource pack of choice)
