This memory device, dubbed the BBM (Block-to-Bit Memory) is arguably the first device in Minecraft that can store values en-mass, even allowing for the reading and transmission of entire bytes (theoretically up to 256 bit memory can be made!).

The BBM device makes use of the properties of solid blocks and repeaters, i.e. the ability of repeaters to "charge" blocks, such that redstone nearby will be activated by the "charged" block. This design makes full use of Redpower's Frames and Frame motors, allowing for a sliding carriage to move up and down the memory "tape", reading and writing to the tape simultaneously.
