The latest 737-800 for Australian airline Qantas is truly unique , displaying a one of a kind livery.  “ We’re very proud to welcome this unique Boeing aircraft into our fleet, ” said Qantas Head of Community, Laura Berry. 
The livery was inspired by a 2005 painting created by the late indigneous artist, Paddy Bedford .  The painting, titled " Medicine Pocket " is meant to capture the essence of Mendoowoorrji, Bedford’s mother’s country in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. To honor this, the aircraft itself has been named Mendoowoorrji. It’s something Bedford’s daughter believes has significant impact on her culture , “ To the Aboriginal culture, a lot of our people can’t read or write, but they express their feelings in painting and their stories … dream time stories. And they bring it together and there is always a meaning. 
Mendoowoorrji is the fourth airplane in the “ flying art ” series . Which was born from collaboration between Qantas and Australian Indigenous Design studio Balarinji. The first time in the series began on a 747 in 1994 with a special livery known as the " Wunala Dreaming. " 
Mendoowoorrji was a unique challenge for the Boeing paint team, who are used to schemes that call for perfectly smooth application and laser sharp symmetry. In this case, they were challenged to think more abstractly . “ This was more of taking what the artist and the people from Qantas were working on, getting what was in their head or their ideas, and putting it down on an airplane. Trying to make an airplane look like a canvas painting , ” said Boeing Decorative Painter, Steve Hoye.
