Well here we are folks: My official replica of Carrie Furnace as it appeared during the 2015 touring season.
A while back I showed one of the tour guides at the site my builds of the Pre-WWII furnaces, which of course are heavily based on Carrie #6 and #7. He adored them and even said they could be considered art if shown at the furnaces themselves. So naturally, I decided to take a break from functional steel and iron mills and actually make a near-exact replica of the two furnaces that started it all.
This projects been in the works for quite a while and has gone through a lot of changes. Most recently I moved the build to a custom made World Painter world, complete with IRL accurate hillsides and slopes (mostly.) The result is pretty good even though you can barely see any of it shown in the screenshots.
Now of course, a 100% accurate replica is impossible to do in the game, as in real life the facility is very "angular" for lack of a better term, and can't be given justice on a limited XYZ plane. But this as just about as close as you could get given the dimensions of the game and the limited amount of materials at my disposal.
Also, due to how active activity is at the furnaces, the site is ever-changing. As a result I've decided to post separate projects as the tour seasons go on. So you can expect a "Carrie Furnace (2016)" post sometime after October this year.

Well anyway that's about all I have to say about it. Thanks for all the support and appreciation on the project

Update #11 : by Dwurban 09/27/2016 5:17:06 pmSep 27th, 2016

After a summer-long hiatus of work, I bring you the next update! Be warned, I've still got tons more to do. This is just a temporary small update to show off some of the bigger improvements:

- Fixed Stockhouse AGAIN (yes, now it was too big. But now, its fixed. For real.)
- Update Hot Stoves to new design (much better looking domes)
- Redid the back area inbetween the stockhouse and the furnaces
- Small detail fixes

PLEASE NOTE: World download is NOT updated! (Because quite frankly I don't feel like sitting through a half hour of a world downloading and uploading it to a website right now)

This is great! And is that a Pitt steelers logo in the background of the 19th picture?

Thanks! And technically, yes. Its actually a logo for US Steel which was then adapted by the team for the Steelers logo

More than likely not. Being that I grew up near Homestead, Carrie and Homestead Works are a lot more close to home, so if I do take inspiration from or remake structures it will be from there.

Wish i could go visit Carrie furnaces, but i am just a little to far from it to just decide to go there, close but not close enough XD. I use google earth and google images for all my builds, so i might try that :P

Good luck. Me going and taking pictures is the only reason I could create this build as detailed as I did. But a general overview on Google is good enough to make a larger functional mill. This picture should really help in understanding how a blast furnace facililty works, I used it a lot in the past: rmbarch.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/cft_site-plan.jpg
