Finally, my biggest single structure yet is complete! After working on this for almost a month, I am proud to present you with a 1:1 scale model of Notre Dame in Paris! Everything in this model is as accurate as I could get it to the real structure within the constraints of Minecraft.
Constructed between 1163 and 1245, the Notre Dame ("Our Lady" in French, referring to the Virgin Mary) has since become one of the most iconic cathedrals in the world. For the architecturally inclined, it is a stylistic mix of High, Rayonnant, and Revival Gothic styles. It also holds the distinction of being one of the first major cathedrals constructed with flying buttresses.
Included in the download is the main structure of the cathedral, without an interior. I have also included in this separate download here the sacristy and treasury building of the cathedral, which attaches to the south side of the main structure. Although the images show sandstone anvils on top of the roofs, the schematics have regular anvils (which is more accurate - an issue with Chunky prevents me from having both types of anvil in the same render).
After the immense frustration in the course of this project, I'll probably do some smaller builds before re-attempting a monumental project from when I first started Minecraft. Though I already have some ideas I want to explore, I am always open to suggestions. What would you like to see me build next?
Enjoy!
This build requires my custom resource pack to view fully. Because it uses special blocks, I cannot release a version that does not require a resource pack for this project (as opposed to the Basilique St. Urbain, which was designed without a resource pack).
This build is not symmetrical. This is both intentional and accurate.
If you want to construct an interior for this build, I will gladly feature it (with credit) if I approve it.
