Introducing the second installment of our figurehead series "World Wonders", the Maya city of Chichén Itzá!
Reconstructed as it could have looked over a thousand years ago with the vibrant colors and architecture of Yucatan's Itzá Maya.
Including dozens of buildings ranging from iconic monuments to newly uncovered structures, we are proud to say this world stands as one of the single most complete and detailed reconstructions of Chichén Itzá in existence.
Featuring structures such as-

Along with many more monuments, the map is also surrounded by dozens of houses and temples inspired by traditional Maya architecture created by featxeven!

Inaccuracies/Artistic interpretations
Although we strive to create the most accurate reconstructions possible, both due to the limitations of Minecraft as well as gaps in knowledge of the aforementioned sites there are some Inaccuracies/Artistic interpretations.
Trees/vegetation:
It is mostly unknown where or to what extent plants grew 1,000 years ago with heavily inhabited sites such as Chichen Itza, so all foliage is an approximate mix between what stands today, as well as what other Maya sites may have looked like.
Temporary/perishable structures, and housing:
The surrounding "City" areas of this reconstruction that feature thatch buildings are inspired by traditional Maya housing and civic planning of the time, but are not exact 1:1 builds of what surrounded Chichen Itza. A specific aspect that is not included in this map is that the city was most likely surrounded to some extent by farmland, along with housing to support it's population.
The same goes for temperary/perishable structures within the great plaza and surrounding monuments- shop stalls, tents, thatch covers, and pergolas, are all mostly added with artistic and aestetic intent.
Colors:
It is largly unkown what colors adorned the monuments of Chichen Itza, other than few traces found mostly on interior walls or floors. But that being said, it is known and accepted that the Maya did paint their temples and civic buildings. The colors used in this recreation are based on other Maya sites and reconstuctions.
Valts:
Most if not all permanent structures used "Valts", trianglular shaped valted celiings supported by pillars or walls, due to size restraints in Minecraft, most buildings do not feature thease in game.
Exact count of Stairs and other mass architectural details:
Due to the scale of Minecraft blocks, some structures do not feature exacting amout of repetitive architectural details as their real life counter parts. I.e. "El Castillo" would need to be roughly 110 feet taller than it's actual size to fit all 91 steps.
