Granted, a simple fenced area may be more cost-effective than this little structure – especially when you have only just settled down and all you want is to breed some chickens to keep you from starving. But very soon, you'll find yourself weary of collecting all the eggs every day. Maybe you have already stumbled across a village with a butcher who is willing to pay a pretty penny (or emerald) for your chickens. That's when this chicken coop will come in handy: It does all the collecting for you! There is a system of hoppers below the area where the chickens are meant to be kept, so the eggs will just fall through the floor (which, for that purpose, is made of slabs) and accumulate in a single chest in the basement. The hoppers will cost you almost two stacks of iron ingots, unfortunately. But every experienced player knows that there comes a point when that doesn't seem like all that much anymore. Of course, you could simply build a smaller version. Then again, why not do it right the first time?
