Inspired by some of the Hermitcraft builders (namely Scar, Tango, and Mumbo) I built a fully-automated advent calendar in vanilla.
Once you load each of the chests with the goodies you want to gift to your server members and start the timer, you're good to go!
Every 24 hours and 1 second (exact hopper timers are hard) it will activate the current day. When a current day is active, it lights up and it's prize button is activated. Pressing the button inside the window will deliver a prize you have selected for that day. I have a shulker with goodies in for each day that get better as the month goes on.
Every 24 hours the current day will de-activate and the next day will activate. Players have to log in every day to get their prize or they miss out.
On the 25, the front doors open up and there is a double dispenser. The 25th will also stay open until you reset the calendar.
If you're starting after the 1st of December, just move the item in the hopper line to the current day.
It also includes Deck The Halls as a noteblock song. There is a lever to put it on repeat, and a button to start the song. If you want to stop the song, just turn the lever off. Once the song finishes the current play, it will not start again unless you press the play button.
It is survival-friendly as long as it is in chunks that are loaded. If you put this on your server, you will need to forceload the chunks you build this in. We get around this on our server by using carpet and spawning Santa at the door with:
/player Santa spawn
Either way, you'll need to make sure the area of the map that it occupies is always loaded.
