Holy Apostles in the 6th century
The complex dates to the very foundation of Constantinople, when Constantine the Great built his mausoleum. His successors added a cruciform wooden church to it, which by the time of Justinian became quite derelict. As a result, the sleepless emperor rebuilt it, making it taller and grander in all respects, adoring it with five domes on a similar cruciform plan. The church complex perished in the 15th century, being replaced by Fatih mosque by Mehmet, which itself precedes its current incarnation on that site. Nevertheless, there are enough written sources (Prokopios, Constantine of Rhodes, Nikolaos Mesarites etc), miniatures, and comparable buildings (basilica of St John in Ephesos, Hagia Sophia etc) to reconstruct how the complex looked with a decent degree of accuracy.
As my time period is the 6th century, the figural mosaics described by Constantine of Rhodes and Mesarites have not yet been put in place, they date from Middle Byzantine period. Same goes obviously for tombs of emperors and saints from post-558 time period.
The build is also still a work in progress, though the core has been completed already. I will still be adding the mausoleum of Justinian, horologion, baths, imperial palace, and the stoas functioning as schools.
