There is a piston under the logs pushing them up when you hit the button, at the same time the redstone goes up vertically and along to a piston above the logs pushing them down, so it kind of 'shakes' the logs and the pods drop off, you can drop water down the side and they will drop off as well, however I find this is a better way of doing it
