The P-40 Warhawk (also known as the Kittyhawk and Tomahawk) was an American fighter and ground-attack aircraft that served during World War II and was manufactured by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation. First flown on October 14th, 1938, it would be used in combat first with the Royal Air Force in 1941. Not only was it used by the British, but the United States also lent to other Allied countries, especially China during their fight against Imperial Japan. You may know that most P-40's have a "shark face" on them as nose art. It was first used by the Luftwaffe on Messerschmitt Bf 110's but then copied by the British, only to have the Americans and Chinese to use it, too, primarily by the Flying Tigers. It rarely flew in the Western Front due to a lack of a two-speed supercharger but did on other fronts and played a major role in them as fighter-bombers and escorts for bombers. It was last retired from service by the Brazilian Air Force in 1958 but some are still used today as restored warbirds.
