What is Durga?
Welcome to the Planet Minecraft page of Durga, the Adventure Map. This map is fantasy, medieval and renaissance inspired in its landscape and building design.
From North to South we have different biomes, with different landscapes and cities. The North includes the Barbarian village and snow biome that are based on Scandinavian tundra and taiga. From there we go down to the plains and forest including the Medieval and Renaissance inspired Durga Capital City.
More on the Eastern Side of the map you will find the Jungle village, set in a thick jungle and the Orient that is an Asian inspired mountain city.
Finally to the South you will find the dryer areas known as volcanic Wasteland and the Desert biome.

Resource Pack
We started using the John Smith texture pack (32x32) when we started the server. Later we switched to the Conquest resource pack (32x32), because it makes use of metadata. Without getting into too much detail I’m going to try to explain it. Every block in Minecraft has an ID number, i.e. 30 for cobweb. Metadatas (subids) are unused subblocks of existing blocks, i.e. 30:1, 30:2 etc.
The creator of the Conquest resource pack, Monsterfish_, makes use of this by creating textures on those ID blocks. By using Worldedit or Metacycler, after installing Optifine or using McPatcher, you can change the textures of certain blocks. This allows the builder to add a lot of detail and variety to their builds.

Sadly the Minecraft 1.8. update got rid of metadata, so the game can’t display the metadata textures at the moment. However the biome-specific metadata textures seem to work. The last version compatible with metadata is Minecraft 1.7.10. Let's hope they are working on a solution, but even without the metadata the resource pack looks great.
